Gmail username are all taken!

Hi to all,

i had tried every possibile solution to find a decent username for my girlfriend on gmail, she has an Andorid tablet and phone and she want to use them, but with gmail... but it's so difficult to find an username.

In past i had solved the problem for me, with the registration of a www.namesurname.com domain and I use info@namesurname.com address.

But she don't want register a domain for privacy motivation.

What do you suggest?

Her name is Sarah Tiffany Doe (Doe is a surname that I have invented to cover the identity)

The solution are:

sarah.t.doe@gmail.com

sati.doe@gmail.com

sti.doe@gmail.com

in alternative:

doe.t.sarah@

doe.sati@

I know, the better solution is to register www.sarahdoe.com as I had done for me. But she don't want because she is scared from the possibility of identity thief and other security problem.

What I can do and what do you prefer? (the email will be used for personal mail and sometime for job submission and curriculum)

For me, i had suggest sarah.t.doe@gmail.com but she tell me that the second name is not so used and anyone know that she has a second name

Thanks!

P.S: i know, in past i had asked the same question for me, but now is for my girlfriend :-)

Personally I would just register the domain name but since it looks like that will not be an option I'd also go with the sara.t.doe@gmail.com.

The Gmail address doesn't have to be in her exact name. She could use sdoe, or sarah.doe2, or saradoemail, or a wide range of other usernames having nothing to do with her real name. I don't see how registering a domain would be an identity theft or security problem - she can hide her address through the domain registrar if she is worried about this.

Yes, you have.

I don't know why you expect different answers this time, still I expect to be amazed.

It's because Gmail never recycles email addresses!

I know it's both a good thing and a bad thing. If they can give you an activity report though, then maybe they should start purging and recycle the accounts that have no activity (no log in and absolutely no emails received) for a certain amount of time.

You have to have a gmail account to use anything Android, but you do nor have to use that account for anything else, like actually sending/receiving messages. So something like qwertasdf0987@gmail.com would be fine, as long as your g/f has a sensibly-looking address with any provider (gmail or otherwise) and uses it for her day-to-day business and/or social life.

This is no longer possible for free with Google. In the past, you could do this with Google Apps for your domain, but they have discontinued the free version (although existing accounts can be kept), and you have to pay $50 per user per year for the business version.

But as the other responders have mentioned, you can pick a gmail username that does not have to be exactly your girlfriend's name.

I have registered an email like this:

name.s.surname@gmail.com (Like william.h.gates@gmail.com William Henry Gates )

What do you think? It's ok?

I don't find other free mail :-(

Anything is OK if it sounds OK to the person who owns it.

Having said that, the middle initial makes the address look "professional", so if she's going to use it for work, on her resume, etc., I'd say it's a very good choice that could last a long time. Some young people choose email addresses that sound a little too cute, and then regret it for years afterward. With a full name and middle initial, that kind of disaster is unlikely to happen.

There are services that include privacy protection when registering a domain. NameCheap provided that service for free when I registered my domain with them. That would be her best option. Gmail refuses to recycle user names, so for most people Gmail is just not a viable email solution otherwise.

Still asking for your girlfriend, or someone else now?

Seriously, you've had loads of suggestions - it can't be that difficult to choose an e-mail address.

It's not a life or death decision.
