Synchronisation: Google Contacts to FastMail Address Book
Recently Google launched support for synchronizing contacts between Google and mobile phones. I didn't use Google's address book, but now that I can keep it synchronized with my phone I started to.
Now using Google Contacts/mobile phone as a master source for my contact information, what would happen to FastMail's address book? The informaiton will slowly be outdated. I'd hate to do updates two places. Could the FM address book be kept in synch with Google Contacts? Hah! Sure thing! So please welcome a small script that basically copies Google Contacts to FastMail address book and keeps the copied contacts in sync. Updated contacts will be updated, deleted will be deleted. Just run the script. With some magic hackery it will work on windows, thanks to Strawberry Perl. The sync is going from Google to FM. It's not hard to make it happen both ways. The script uses a slightly undocumented feature of FM - SOAP access to your data that are stored at FM. Cool, huh? Subscribe to fm-talk list for more interesting discussions. |

If I remember correctly, Fastcheck uses SOAP....
Do you think it would be possible to have something like Fastcheck do this automagically through a fastcommand or something else? Fabaus |

It's a bit documented, but not much. There're some Database_* calls that are not documented. And the structure of the tables that these Database_* calls support is also not there. But that's not the point really.

While I don't really use Google's contacts, this looks really neat. Thanks for providing this for the FM community!

Here's some more code sharing from me. This one will dump the contents of your FM address book in JSON format. It also documents the structure of some tables a little bit. Enjoy:
http://km.krot.org/code/fmab.pl Kirill P.S. There're a couple of Perl 5.10-isms in the script. If you don't have Perl 5.10 available, just replace "say" with "print" (don't forget the newline at the end of the line) and "//" with a check for definedness. You probably know what that means anyway. |

This is plain copy & paste (see e.g. http://theappleblog.com/2008/10/29/i...ogle-calendar/ ) and doesn't belong on this forum IMHO.

Umm, we're getting a bit off topic here but I feel it necessary to point out that a 3rd party service is not required to sync a google calendar with an iPhone; Google supports this natively: http://www.google.com/support/mobile...ng&topic=14252

Yes, Neil, it became slightly OT since ForexGuides' post. Actually I'd rather see that post nuked or moved away...
