SPF and Sender ID

Nowadays is it necessary to have an spf or sender id? I heard there is a conflict between the two?

Sender ID will use SPF records. Most of the time this is OK, but there are some cases where it's a problem.

Personally, I think publishing SPF records is a good idea, but not everyone agrees.
