No more making new Hotmail and Live addresses now?
The drop down is gone to make Hotmail and Live email addresses when you go to make a new alias.

there used to be a back door so to speak where you could still make a msn one. i think i made one about a year, or maybe a year and a half ago. it was not through the regular signup method.
edit: i see another topic about it http://www.emaildiscussions.com/showthread.php?t=68103 |

The option for a new Hotmail address is back! (@live.com was not brought back though).

I'm not certain, but I think they've merged the live, hotmail, and outlook namespaces. I want to add hotmail or outlook aliases for my primary (live) alias, and I always get "This email address is already taken". Let's just say that's unlikely.

MSN.com was never really intended to be used for webmail but they had it as temporary option, bit of a gesture towards the users. There used to be back doors indeed to keep creating @msn.com addresses, but only not so long ago they also disabled that loophole. I think they will just go for Outlook.com 100% from now on ; and let's be honest that it sounds more mature than "Hotmail" + there is the fact that almost the entire planet knows what Outlook stands for. It's a very powerful brand and thus easy for mouth-to-mouth exchange of email addresses.
