An account hijacker can login through your alias too, if he/she got required information. But if your login id is something different than public mail id, more peace of mind, isn't it?

But does not the implementation of 2FA compensate? |

Yes, indeed, it does. Just like it does with regular Gmail accounts (as opposed to Apps accounts) which have no aliases at all. But it was nice (while it lasted) to have the little bit of extra security provided by having the Outlook account/login username secret.

Yeah, but having both 2FA and where you could have a reserved email address for logins only would make it even more secure.

One thing I should add. I think, microsoft knows that sign in with alias is a security backstep but they had no other option. Their previous approach of change/convert account to outlook.com one made some account non-working, specially msn ids converted to outlook.com.
And some more conflicts with windows phone etc., I can't remember all those, which compelled them to simplify the login and discard a good security practice. |

I started with sending the code by text to a cell phone - but after more than 5 minutes of waiting without response*, I changed this to sending the code to a back-up e-mail address - the code came through within a few seconds. Finally, to complete the 2FA, they again wanted another code - and this time only to the cell phone. Now, there are two options on how to receive the code by cellphone - text or phone call. As the text option did not seem to work first time, I opted for the code by phone call - this came through in a matter of seconds. So now this other account is also protected. Update*: The code by text eventually arrived to the cell phone - about an hour later. Last edited by FredOnline : 21 Apr 2013 at 05:37 PM. Reason: Update* |

I have enabled the 2FA on outlook.com as well and the Authenticator app works great.
The service is now way better than Gmail which becomes more bloated and slower everyday. They even introduced a good functional calendar not too long ago I don't regret my switch last july ![]() |

Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo are the most popular???
of the free email services. Is maybe gmail best at pulling outlook and yahoo compared to outlook webmail not pulling gmail or yahoo? I have yahoo now and maybe want to change to either outlook or gmail but feel unsure of how they do the pulling? |

If you mean the Outlook that has replaced Hotmail, I loathe it, but I can't quite figure out why. It's has a fine blue color, and a fine uncluttered look. But I still hate it. Many of the various clicking points have disappeared - the worst omission being the "Log out." You can no longer easily click to check the font. When I try to delete messages, it keeps giving me a pop-up encouraging me to archive (which I find rather sinister). I can't even find the calendar, if it still exists. Even silly things like the emoticons are worse.
