Thanks for pointing out the not-really-free info to me.
For myself, as a tech guy, go with 10 USD per month, I can buy a VPS and setup as many email accounts as I want, that's smarter.
My blog nsbeta dot info is running on a linux VPS, and I setup the domain email accounts on that VPS too, so any account for @nsbeta.info I can create in the VPS server.

Haha! Exactly, then I can see why $10 per month for Luxsci isn't the best choice for you, since you have so many advanced skills and don't mind getting your hands into server management. I think Luxsci's target market involves people who probably don't want to set up a VPS to handle those services themselves.

There was a time in my life when I would have done (and did) exactly as you, so it makes sense to me what you're doing. But my current needs are different as my life/family/business have changed, so at least for right now, paying Luxsci (and other providers) is definitely worth it to me. I haven't had to worry about that side of the server world for a long time, and it feels great. Ahhhhh, the fond memories of configuring servers...

For anyone willing to pay for LuxSci *provided* their customer service is as good as they (and many people on these forums) say it is, here's a little case story from this morning (10 AM CEST, 4 AM EDT - where LuxSci is located):

At 03:59 AM I open a support ticket, because I'm not seeing copies of sent messages in my sent-mail folder.

At 04:04 AM (5 minutes after opening a ticket) I hear back from Zach (zmiller), telling me the engineers are on it, that messages *are* being sent just not copied to my sent-mail folder, and gives me a URL where I can check delivery status reports for my sent messages.

At 04:13 AM (14 minutes after opening a ticket) I receive a update to my ticket from Erik Kangas stating that the issue has been resolved, along with details of what went wrong, what messages were and were not delivered (only sent-mail copies were not delivered) and how it was fixed.

That's what I call excellent customer service. Note I'm NOT trying to start a debate as to whether this level of service is worth $10/mo, I'm just saying I think this is excellent customer service, regardless of the price.

I know. It's like having your own private IT department.

I used it several years ago for a short time. It was seriously over-priced but the support was excellent. In the end, how much tech support do the users of this board really need?

So I took a trial account. Here's what I hate. They assign an email address that is impossible to remember. They assign a password equally difficult to remember. You go in to do a password change and every password you enter is rejected with "The password you specified can be too easily discovered by a hacker. Please choose a different password.". Please guys, let me take my chances on this. I've had secure email with passwords I've used on other email accounts.

This is not for me. This is too much of a pain in the butt.

But isn't that really the point that most people try to make? Their support is really all I've ever heard about. It certainly seems like the vast majority of the benefit for paying a premium price.

Luxsci pricing, imho, is excellent for multiple accounts, and in that situation, the options make sense. For those with just one or two accounts, however, the pricing makes no sense at all, the options are too confusing, and it is way overpriced, and they won't be getting my business, even with good support.

today everything is free, google apps free, live domains free, zoho free, dropbox free, why we pay that much for a personal email account?
Nothing is for free. Do google provide gmail to user for free out of the goodness of their hearts?

Can I just remind people putting full email addresses like it on the forum, could end up with an internet troll hunting for email addresses to start spamming that address.

In my opinion, that advice is outdated.

I've been posting my email address all over the place, mostly without any obfuscation. I can count on one hand the number of spam that made it into my Spam folder in the last few months. If you keep getting massive amounts of spam, you're probably stuck with an incompetent email service or your spam filter is messed up.

You are very right
All forums sooner or later get data miners and the email addresses go up for sale

It doesn't matter what email service you use the spam will still reach their server and most of the time your email inbox

Exclamation Google spiders EMD very efficiently

I'm not sure if it contributes to more spam, but posters to the EMD Forums (as well as many others) should realize that Google spiders many of these posts very quickly. That particular email address is already easily found with a Google search (this thread is the top result). In fact, the post previous to mine is also already found with a search (less than 8 hours after the post).
