EmailThatWorks/IMAP Partners SHUTTING DOWN

We regret to tell you that IMAP Partners/EmailThatWorks will be ceasing
operations on December 1, 2010, and the business will officially close
soon afterward. Due to downward pressure on pricing from lower-cost
and free services along with the increasing need to provide additional
services, we have found that it is no longer practical to continue
the business.

We are happy to make some recommendations of other service providers,
and of course we will work with you to ensure a smooth transition.

For email, we have evaluated and can recommend FastMail, a technically
oriented provider with a similar mindset to ours. They have been
around for over ten years, and have recently been acquired by Opera
Software. It is worth noting that at least some of us will become users
of this service. They offer own-domain service in their Family and
Business accounts, and single-user service in one of their many domains.

Please use this link to reach FastMail:
http://www.fastmail.fm/?STKI=3008477

FastMail has a self-service IMAP-based migration tool, and detailed
instructions around the whole process, including when to change your
MX record. This tool will easily move all your stored mail from our
server to theirs with a minimum of disruption to your users.

FastMail has some web hosting capability, that may or may not meet your
needs. There are many other providers of web hosting, with numerous
specialties.

You can refer to our own support forum for more information and
recommendations:

Some of you have registered your domains with us. We can continue
to be your domain registrar until your term expires, but will not be
accepting any renewal requests. You may transfer the registration to
another provider anytime within this period.

Some of you also have DNS service with us. We intend to keep the servers
running for a while, but we strongly recommend that you transfer DNS to
your new provider along with your email and/or web hosting. FastMail will
host DNS as part of your service there, but is not a domain registrar.

As we mentioned above, we will be ceasing operations on December 1,
three months from today. Please make the necessary arrangements to
transfer your service by this date. All business must be concluded and
your account closed by December 15.

We thank you very much for your business over the years.

Best regards,
EmailThatWorks, LLC

I'm sorry to hear that. Email That Works/IMAP Partners has been a great service provider.

1. Poor customer service (IMO)
2. Badly designed website
3. Poor marketing
4. Expensive

But still sorry to see them go.

never heard that provider.
since gmail/google apps is excellent enough, I don't think other providers have much chance.
for most guys I know, they either use gmail/google apps, or run their own mail servers for best privacy.

EmailThatWorks was the top-rated provider about 3 (or more) years ago according to Infinite Ink, a very analytic site showing of the strengths and weaknesses of many IMAP providers.
