Get a Live.com email accounts

I have found a procedure to get an @live.com email account. Follow the steps described in this article from CyberNet:

Were you able to make it work? I followed the step-by-step instructions, but it doesn't work for me (using IE6). The registration form is incomplete, and when I fill out all I'm able to, clicking on the "I accept" button does nothing.

Edit: Okay, I got it to work. It seems that the registration form page was loading very slowly with my dialup connection, and I didn't realize that it hadn't yet fully loaded before I proceeded to Step 3, entering the "secret url" into the address bar. But when I noticed my mistake and waited for the page to fully load before proceeding, everything went fine and I apparently got my @live.com account. Thanks, Javier.

Worked for me.

All my old Hotmail accounts are webdav, though -- now I gotta figure out what I can do with an account without that.

I'm not sure how reliable it is, and it may be anyone's guess how long it will work, but I've been auto-polling my first hotmail account through cashette.com and then retrieving my messages from cashette.com via POP3 from another webmail account. Although this hotmail account does have webdav access, I'm not sure but I believe cashette purports to be able to access non-webdav-enabled hotmail accounts. I'm also not sure if it will work with anything other than the hotmail.com domain, but it may be worth looking into.

Hmm...it seems I can't even log in to hotmail webmail in the "normal" way with my live.com address. Unless that changes eventually, I guess I'm not sure what I can do with my account either.

Today is working (at least for me) very slowly. But I have found that, with a little tweak, this account can be polled using FreePOPs (you only need to add live.com to the domains recognized by FreePOPs in the config.lua file).

BTW, maybe BlueHome.net (that allows to retrieve email from Hotmail accounts using FreePOPs, will be so glad to do these changes and, therefore, add this service to the others actually available for retrieval).

This account have 2 GB of storage quota and, as said, is working slowly (but I am also experiencing some problems login into my Messenger account).

Regarding WebDAV access, I cannot say anything because all my other Hotmail/MSN accounts are losing (without any evident reason) this functionality (only 2 of my previous 6 accounts are able to connect using OE).

Just curious, any speculation as to why?
I have had one hotmail account since 1998 (why, is a matter for Sigmund Freud to discern ) and have had Tuffmail polling it for roughly two years, without difficulty.

Oh, and thanks for the live.com link. I'm not sure what I will do with the account either.

Although it seemed to take forever, I FINALLY got into hotmail with my live.com address. Well, okay, Windows Live Mail. My account also shows 2GB.

I lost that ability in my hotmail account about two or three weeks ago.... I don't know why. That is one of the reasons I started testing (then using) my aol account with free IMAP.

The only thing I can think of is that while testing Vista email client (whatever it is called) and Outlook 2007 maybe I had too many connections open... I tested it in Virtual PC and also had my regular Outlook on my main pc open. WAG on my part.... No biggie, I love what AOL is doing. I'm glad it happened so I could test AOL's new services.

Live? No, I'll skip on that... once MS brings IMAP onboard I'll look at it again.....

I signed up but have received an email apparently from Microsoft Customer Support asking me to verify my email address. A link is given in the email.
Is the mail from MS or is it the beginning of spam?

It was pretty late last night when I registered, at a time when I was likely not far from being on the verge of sleep, so it's conceivable I may have a memory lapse, but I can't recall receiving any sort of an email verification message upon submitting my registration. And it would seem unusual for some to get such a message and not others. But it might also seem somewhat highly coincidental to receive a spam purporting to be same soon after registering.

I assume it was sent to the alternate address you registered for the live.com address with, otherwise of course there might be little reason to assume a "connection". I can't even clearly recall now whether I was even required to provide an alternate address, but I'm pretty certain I received no such message from them in any case. Maybe about all you can do is examine the headers in order to to try to verify the source of the message and carefully examine the link it contains in order to ascertain whether it might be some sort of a phishing scam.

I got the same message.

You can sign up for a "Passport" with any e-mail address, so they do confirm the address.

Maybe they do that if it is one of their own, or maybe they just haven't set live.com as one of their own addresses yet.

I confirmed.

But the Webmail extension with Hotmail extension for Thunderbird still hasn't got my mail. even with me saying it's the beta. And I have set up Mobile MSN alerts, but it won't let me set them up for new mail.

Time, time time.

But I got a real good username. . .
