Sending Mails takes forever
Hey there,
my problem is that mails don't arrive at their destination. Some do, some don't. I sent one exactly one hour ago to one of my other mail adresses: didn't arrive until now. Sent one 45 minutes ago to my sisters mail adress. Didn't arrive until now. In the first mail I used my main mail adress, in the second one I used an alias. Before that I sent some more mails, some of which arrived, but it took like 3-5 minutes. I can't detect a pattern. Anyone can help me? Cheers Joe |

no bounce message + update
I got no bounce message and the mails still have not arrived, after 2 hours. Receiving mails works out fine, but sending is a huge problem.

Are you checking for arrival using a third-party email app or client? Try sending emails to Gmail and check for arrival using Gmail's own web interface. Typical lag times should only be a few seconds.

The headers should show where the delay is being introduced.

Yes, the problem persists. One of the arrivals I am checking at the Gmail interface itself, the other one at a client. Just tried another mail to yet another adress and checked in its own interface, so no 3rd party client, but there the mail also doesnt arrive.

Is your account a new Fastmail account? Both in this forum and at Reddit, Fastmail users have reported new accounts being subjected to delays on outgoing messages. They received similar replies from Fastmail customer service:

We need to see the headers from the message at the receiving end.

Just post the Received: header lines. They show the handoffs between servers.

Note the name of the SMTP server where the 12-minute delay happened. It looks like Fastmail held up the message because your account is new before sending it along to Google's server.

I've not seen headers from one of the outgoing emails delayed by FM, but my guess is that they hold it back before sending it to the outgoing server as that would be done in their own custom code rather than Postfix. If they do hold it back in the outgoing server it wont be possible to tell, from the Received headers, where the delay occured. Last edited by SideshowBob : 3 Oct 2022 at 11:57 PM. If you can afford a few dollars with a low chance that it could be a wasted subscription (if you subsequently decided not to use Fastmail) pay up for a year, and see if the problem disappears. If, as I suspect, your issue is mainly an anti spammer measure, there is likely a big change in behaviour once you have paid.
I can understand if you feel reluctant to follow my advice. I hate giving money (however little) for services that have not earned my trust. |

What is your internet connection like.
How are you sending via Firefox or Google chrome. Perhaps clear your cache and cookies. |
