Two notifications for the same post on this forum

(Probably not actually Fastmail specific, but we'll see.)

For one post on this forum, I have just received two notifications, differing only in (most) header fields down to:

Yes I do. But this does not explain two notifications for the same reply. Or why one is flagged as "phishing".

And who is actually saying that? Something called "X-ME-VS" apparently, which is maybe software run by ME, Messaging Engine, a.k.a. Fastmail.

If I understand correctly, under FM as of a few years ago, there's no such thing - at least visible/controllable by me.

The nearest I get is a Sieve condition and some GUI actions: https://i.imgur.com/5JOxEkX.png

So I think the answer is No.

Thanks.

The nearest I get is a Sieve condition and some GUI actions:...
The user-edited custom Sieve feature was never removed. Go to your Rules screen and scroll down to the very bottom to create custom Sieve (integrated with the grey blocks created by the main Rules screen). You can use both “regular” Rules and custom Sieve simultaneously.

Your rule seems to send a copy to a personal domain address. Are both of the messages received directly from <forumadmin@emaildiscussions.com> to your Fastmail account? Examine these headers:
  • X-Mail-from:
  • X-Spam-source:
If so, that sounds like something going on at EMD. But if they arrived from different sources, it’s possible that you have some type of loop set up by the forwarding rule. Could it be forwarding to your domain, which forwards to Gmail, which forwards to Fastmail?

Did both of those messages appear in the same folder/label? Fastmail has a feature which you can enable which in most cases prevents multiple copies of a message from appearing in the same folder/label. This relies on the Message-Id header. Go to Advanced Preferences for the folder or label where both messages appeared and scroll to the bottom for the Discard duplicate messages feature. Note that this is a feature which can be enabled or disabled for each folder/label.

EDIT: That's from the notifications:

but the correct answer to your question "Which post" is: I don't know, because the notification does not say. However I recall it was this one http://www.emaildiscussions.com/showpost.php?p=637800 and I don't see any other possible match currently.

It was this year, but Fastmail Search

header:"X-ME-VSCategory: phishing" after:2024-01-01

fails to find it.

EDIT: It said "No matches found" But when I repeat that search now, again on FM desktop web, it IS found. Oh dear! Also found are many others inc. from Facebook: https://i.imgur.com/Yv5Dm4V.png

EDIT: Search

finds both.

I have a mail rule to send a copy to Gmail but in Gmail, Search

find only one - the "phishing" version, surprisingly. I assume FM's send a copy failed on the other,

Got it. Thanks for the correction.

Both say

X-Mail-from: forumadmin@emaildiscussions.com

My Gmail does not forward to Fastmail.

Those messages appeared in the same folder/label. Plain Inbox.

Discard Duplicates is off. A must here, since it suffers from false positives due to message ID reuse by e.g. Yahoo! mailing lists.

Thanks.

I just spotted a 3 second difference in the times in the last header field you see - FWIW.

I don't have a FastMail account, so I can't comment on your search.
