Forwarding Archived Messages
I have several hundred conversations I need to be able to forward or redirect to another person.
Must I forward each conversation individually, or is there way for me to forward all of the conversations at once? This is a bigger deal than it might seem; the e-mails in question are related to litigation for my company. Thanks in advance for any help you're able to give. Yours, Brent |

It would be nice if Gmail had provision for selecting any number of messages and/or conversations and redirecting them all to another address in one "fell swoop", as a few other services I've used have. But unfortunately, there is no provision for directly forwarding more than one message, or conversation, at a time in Gmail, to the best of my knowledge.
The closest thing I can think of would be to have another account set up to autopoll the Gmail account by POP3 and, in turn, autoforward all the retrieved messages to yet another address. But I'm not sure which other services with such ability can poll Gmail, if any, nor am I fully clear on whether it can currently be done with another Gmail account or not. Perhaps someone else may know for sure. Presumably it could be done using a local email client, but I don't know if that would be practical for you or not either. Thanks
I appreciate the tips. You're pretty much confirming what I already thought, but I figured I'd see if someone else had a better idea.
If you're reading and you can think of anything to give me a hand, I'll really appreciate it. Thanks to all for their help. Cheers. |

I'm afraid offhand I can't think of much of a specific nature to offer beyond my somewhat "general" suggestion at the moment, as it's not something I've ever needed to do myself as far as I can recall. But perhaps someone else may offer suggestions here or I or someone else might be able to help with any specific problems you may run into in trying to implement a solution.

My suggestion would be to put the same label on all the messages that you want forwarded. Then enable IMAP for your Gmail account.
Once that is done, set up Gmail in Outlook or Outlook Express using IMAP protocol. The labels appear as a folder in IMAP. All the messages that had the label should be in 1 folder. You should be able to forward all the messages in the IMAP folder using one of the 2 email client. Amit |

IMAP Worked
What I ended up doing was a combination of the suggestion posted by Amit.
1. Search for the conversations I needed in Gmail. 2. Selected all of the conversations at once and then added a label to them. 3. Enabled IMAP for the account. 4. In Microsoft Outlook I created an IMAP account with access to the Gmail account. 5. The conversations I labeled did in fact show up as an IMAP folder. 6. Created a rule to run on the IMAP folder in Outlook to forward all of the e-mails received from the Gmail account to the e-mail address of the attorney who requested them. Worked like a charm. Thanks to all for their help. Brent |

Would this work?
1) Create a filter
2) Select the criteria you want 3) On action, select forward to "address here". 4) And select "Also apply filter to XXX conversations below.". Old messages would be forwarded. You could then either keep the filter active or delete it. Don't know if that would work. I guess it would. |

Actually, unfortunately it wouldn't work, as the moment you select forwarding as an "action" while creating a filter, immediately beneath the option to "Also apply filter to XXX conversations below", a message appears which says: "Note: old mail will not be forwarded".
Too bad they don't have a simple option for redirection of selected messages, one of Gmail's (IMO) many shortcomings. |
