Can I Post A Screenshot In My Thread?

I have a screenshot of my Thunderbird screen that I would to add when I create a new thread.

I tried to do that but was not able to find a button or way to do it. The FAQ didn't show any information.

Is there a way to add an image to my thread?

Thanks, Bill

No, you may only post a link to a screenshot stored elsewhere.

You can't upload a file and have it 'attached' to a post. You would have to use a third party to host the file, and then provide a link to that file in the post.

Modern forum software can do that.

Just to add to my previous post.. I'm pretty sure that even a link to an image file won't, and can't, be embedded to a post in these particular forums.

- Bruce

edit: I think what I was trying to say is that while a link to an image can be included in a post, a display of the image itself is not possible.

I beg to differ. Can't you see the image at the link below?
Mail Preferences

This is a web link - not an attachment. Only text characters are stored on the EMD server - it's just a URL.

From the OP. As my first post says, I have a screenshot of my Thunderbird screen that I would like to add to the thread because I think it would be easier to understand my question if you could look at the screenshot. So what I am reading and understanding is that there is no way to add a screenshot image to this forum either from a photo sharing website or as a direct upload. What do the other users do, maybe they don’t do anything because of this limitation.

With all due respect to email discussions.com this is the only forum that I participate in that does not allow images etc. to be posted within a thread Your thoughts please. Thanks, Bill

See the edit to my post here: 8
You are correct that the image itself can't be attached or embedded or looked at (here) but a link to it will be active.

No, that is incorrect. As several of us have posted here, you can post a clickable link to a web page, including one which shows an image. I showed you one example from my Fastmail account file storage, and here is how you can do this easily from postimage.org which works like this: IMAGE LINK
  • Go to https://postimages.org/ (or a similar site which stores images at a URL)
  • Click the Choose images button
  • Select an image saved on your PC
  • You will then receive a page of links. The first one can be copied and pasted here, such as: https://postimg.cc/2VDrYXR0
  • Or if you have your EMD "User CP" editor option set to "standard" or "enhanced", you can use the Insert Link editor tool (looks like a globe with a link in front) to add a link to selected text like this.
  • Of course, be sure to follow the Forum Rules.

n5bb - sorry for the delay in my response to your information about posting a screenshot. I went to the postimages.org website you mentioned and uploaded my screenshot then created a post on this board with the "image" link and it worked perfect. Thanks again for your help!

Glad that worked for you, Bill. I will reply in the other thread to your question about Gmail.
