Listening now to Alcest again, but this time songs from their latest album.
Now listening to "Sapphire", a song in an imaginary language. Near the end of the song there are some screams, most of the song is in clean vocals.

Listening to Petr Muk - "Láska tě spoutá", a Czech language cover of Erasure's "Love to hate you". Surprisingly good cover.

Petr Muk used to tour with Erasure in the late eighties when his band Oceán opened for Erasure. He recorded a tribute EP to Erasure later, with Czech translations of a couple of Erasure songs, including this one. One of the other songs on the album is an a capella cover in Czech of "Oh l'amour".

I woke up during the night, to pay the customary call of nature, and returning to bed, I put the radio on for (I thought) a few minutes.

It was the BBC World Service program "Soul Music".

Quote:
Music brings meaning to our lives. From first breath to last rites music is there, helping us to deal with our emotions and reflect on our experiences. Be it solace or celebration, grief, love, lost youth or contented aging, we find ourselves reflected in the music we love and share.

In Soul Music we take a song and talk to people for whom the song has a special place in their lives.
The song in the spotlight was "River" by Joni Mitchell.

Now, I must admit I hadn't heard the original song, but I am very familiar with this Heart version:

And it's a great excuse to get out and listen to my Heart CD's!

In Flanders too, "Bohemian Rhapsody" tops those all-time charts almost every year and has been doing so for ages. It's a decent song, but best of all time? Not even the best of Queen in my opinion. "Too much love will kill you" and "Innuendo" are their masterpieces in my opinion. "Innuendo" also has a truly fantastic promo video.

Agree 100%. One of the best voices today, that's for sure.

A guy on YouTube has made a video, using her music to show pictures of Rendlesham Forest in the U.K. (where the biggest UFO event to take place in the U.K. happened in 1980) and the complexity of her music brings out the strange atmosphere in the forest brilliantly.
