Microsoft Hotmail/Live/Outlook

Is it correct that, apart from the name, Hotmail, Live, and Outlook are identical, but that Hotmail is somehow seen as retro or less "chic" in comparison to Outlook?

I currently have two hotmail accounts. One of them I will keep, the oldest and the second I will eventually delete. On Jan 9, 2023 I delete a live account, it was closed two months later on Mar 10, 2023.

Hotmail was a small email provider that Microsoft purchased many years ago to get web-based email. So it was an email address associated with personal email rather than businesses.

Microsoft currently offers two Microsoft-owned domains for new free email accounts:
  • outlook.com
  • hotmail.com
See: https://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Hotmail-Account

Live.com email addresses are no longer available for new users, but existing live.com email addresses still work. New live.com addresses became unavailable nine years ago (in 2014).

On a related note, Microsoft is making some changes to outlook.com email features on Nov 30, 2023. See:
Changes to Microsoft 365 email features and storage

Okay, but I was also asking about "chic."

And what's the difference between the two GMXs? I tried GMX.com, and ran into huge trouble when I suddenly couldn't access it and no one, anywhere would reply to my inquiries.

GMX is part of United Internet. They also own IONOS and 1&1

They offer POP and IMAP in some but not others, like mail.com. But mail.com has like 100 domains to choose form.

Okay, but I meant, what's the difference between GMX.com and GMX.net?
