Addy or SimpleLogin public instances

Both Addy or SimpleLogin are open-source. I'm curious whether somebody hosts and shares these for everyone to use.

You didn't look very hard, did you?

On the homepage at: https://addy.io/ there's an "Open-source" link at the bottom lefthand corner, to: https://github.com/anonaddy/anonaddy

Likewise: https://simplelogin.io/ has a highlighted "open source" link on the home page to https://github.com/simple-login/

This is a bit confusing.

In other words, does somebody create a service using that open source technology and make it available to users for free?

The people who developed these services have already made them available for other people to use. That's what is discussed at https://addy.io/#pricing and https://simplelogin.io/pricing/ .

The point about them making the code available is that they don't mind if other people choose to use it too ... and it also allows anyone interested enough to do so to audit their code to make sure they're not doing anything underhand. Of course that also allows hackers to look for weaknesses in their code.

I don't know how anyone could be certain that the code they actually run on their servers is exactly the same as at github.

Using the code, especially if someone plans to set-up a rival service will cost money. You'd need to pay for servers, storage & possibly bandwidth, and - while you might be able to have other people pay you in turn for the services you'd be providing - you'd somehow need to show you were responsible, trustworthy, technically competent, etc or nobody (but idiots) would become your customer.
