Free Member Account(s) For June
Hello folks!
It is that time of the month again to announce that we(this is a team effort!) will be donating a FREE FastMail Member account(s) for the month of June. We've already received a donated gift certificate for one account and the [b]GREAT[b] folks at FastMail give use matching funds. What that means is that for every time we "save up" enough donations to give away a FastMail Member account FastMail will allow us to give away one more at no additional cost. Gotta love that! Please e-mail me at helpinghandATemailgroupsDOTnet if you wish to be considered for the free account. The donated Member account is given to people who have no means by which they can afford to pay for this wonderful service. So, e-mail me a little about yourself: 1. Your name 2. Your FastMail e-mail address 3. Where you come from ... that sort of thing. For those of you who can afford to pay but do not have access to a credit card or one of the approved payment methods I will be glad to assist. We can make arrangements for you to send me the money and, upon receipt, will e-mail you a FastMail gift certifcate in the amount you sent. You can then use this to pay for the membership level you wanted. If anyone else would like to help out please e-mail me a FastMail gift certificate in any amount you like. It all adds up! Thanks! - Gerry |

Would you like me to add a link to this to the FastMail.FM latest news?

Send a gift certificate (click Options, then Buy Gift Certificate) to helpinghandATemailgroupsDOTnet . In the note section, mention whether you'd like to be told who your gift is given to, and whether there are any particular criteria you'd like to be considered when choosing a recipient.
In the end it is entirely up to Gerry as to who your donation goes to, however. ![]() |

This is a great deal for everyone! I donated a membership and it not only felt great but the doing was painless.
Imagine what a fine window to the world an Email account could provide to some one who would normally have a rough time in acquiring one. Help out - it feels good. ![]() |

Hi I came across this thread while searching for an answer to a problem I am having.
Is this service still actively giving accounts to people? How well has it been working? I plan to add some a few bucks to my account for bandwidth safety, and thought I could spare a few bucks more. Even as a poor grad student I have more money than half the world. This would be a great service for people in countries where internet access is expensive and downloading (i.e.,imap,pop) would be a huge advantage. |

It's been great, and is still going strong. In January I think over a dozen accounts were given away! Send a gift certificate to helpinghandATfastmail if you can support this - $14.95 is a suggested amount since that gets someone a Member account (well, 2 accounts can actually be given away since we match funds).

Yep, and the return is you get emails from all over the world and make new friends.

Umm. Is that bit about getting emails from all over the world a promise or a threat? Not that I don't love the emails I already get from all over the world, but I prefer to make my friends in a more personal manner.
As for the amount, I will probably just give a few dollars for now. Will that reduce the number of emails I get? Seriously, though I do not have much cash flow at the moment ... Anyway, I am more interested in buying an account outright for someone I know. But a few dollars extra for s/o I don't know when I am already doing a transaction is fine too. Actually, if my account serves me well for awhile, then I will buy gift certificates for my inlaws in India. (So far, I have been put off by difficulty of replying with the correct address when using the subdomain addressing feature. Am waiting to see what happens with that.)I wouldn't have known about this donor program if I hadn't of been searching the forum on another topic. How about putting a little note on the add funds screen about adding a few bucks for donating? I hope other new members will consider chipping in a few bucks too the next time they add some $ to their accounts. $15 is a lot of money in much of the world, and so are the local telephone rates for the time logged on to webmail. We are so fortunate in the U.S. not to pay for local phone calls on a per minute basis. POP/IMAP is a big asset in most places. |

Anj,
You can ask to give anonymously if you have any concerns - that way, the person receiving the Member account won't even know who his/her benefactor is. |

Thanks Edwin, it's a good thing to clarify though I figured as much and was just joking.
Anyway, as I said, I won't be splurging for the whole ticket so to speak. Hope others will add to my meager contribution... I do believe a few bucks can add up and make a real difference for s/o. I know in India, many of the American countries, etc. $15 is the weekly salary for many entry level college grads, yet it is not that it costs less to purchase a mailserver and domains there. |
