There probably needs to be another question in the FastCheck FAQ:
Quote:
Why use FastCheck?
FastCheck provides a subset of the functionality of most IMAP clients like Outlook Express, Mozilla, etc--specifically, it tells you when you have new mail. So, why use FastCheck instead of just an IMAP client? Well, there's lots of reasons you may find it useful:
  • If you prefer FastMail.FM's web interface to other mail clients, but want to know about new mail faster than FastMail.FM's Poll window, FastCheck is great because it provides instant notification
  • FastCheck has other advantages over the Poll window, including checking multiple folders (rather than just the inbox), and providing audible and visual notification in the taskbar of new email
  • FastCheck is a better mail checker than Mozilla, because Mozilla doesn't support *instant* notification (using the IMAP 'IDLE' command) whereas FastCheck does. It is better than Outlook Express because you can quickly check *many* folders for new email, and get taskbar notification if there's new email in any one
  • If you are behind a firewall and don't have IMAP access, FastCheck can work over an HTTP proxy; so, it works anywhere that you have access to the web!
  • If you are on a PC at work where you can not install new software to install an email client, just pop a disk with FastCheck into your floppy drive--you can run it directly from there!

What's in it for FastCheck?

I'm fairly new to FastMail (1 month), and love it! I'm also new to FastCheck -- I'm very interested. I've searched the site. There's no mention of cost, to my knowledge. What's in it for FastCheck? Just curious, but I'd like to know before I download.

FastCheck is free, and will always be! I'll try to stick the sources into SourceForge's VCS as soon as I have some time...

Eric wrote it because he wanted a nice IMAP checker. He got a free copy of the software in exchange for writing it...

Actually, the source will be released soon, so everyone will be able to help add features and make it even better!

Don't forget folks--if you've got questions about using FastCheck, use the dedicated forum: http://www.fastcheck.org/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=1

But of course, if you want to tell everyone how great it is, post here!

I can vouch for Fastcheck being a very cool utility, having been using it for some time. At least now I can share it with other Fastmail users. Bravo Eric (ye boyo ye!)

I love it, it is great, and you can almost customize everything in running it, double clicks, etc...

hey, maybe you can add an option in double clicks so it goes straight to compose screen ?
