Suggestions for free password generator program
After an unvoluntarely Gmail block from nearly 32 hours I realy got scared....so I have to make better and stronger passwords.
As i have about 11 different email accounts and many more websites were i need to log in i am looking for a free software program that can generate Passwords to secure my accounts. As I don't have a fotografic memory i will need a program that can do that for me......possible with a master password. I use win 7 with firefox and sometimes IE 8 and Opera 10.0 aswell... Anyone has suggestions???? thanks in advance for your input. Dutchie. |

Most good password managers offer a built-in password generator: KeePass/KeePassX (both of which I can recommend), and LastPass, as sflorack mentioned, to name two. There's a generator built in to OS-X's change-account-password routine. An app called xyzzy, available for Windows and OS-X, can generate moderately pronounceable passwords. Grc.com offers an "ultra-high security password generator". But if your concern is / includes remembering them, you'll want a password manager like LastPass or KeePass(X).

The password manager serves mostly as a back up. I store other access type information in it also. My current password manager is PINs. I was last updated in 2003 but is serves my purposes. I am running it under Wine in Slackware64. Eventually I will be switching over to KeePass Password Safe. |

The one built into OS X (Keychain) works pretty well. I've used it for years hand have hundreds of passwords and notes stored there. Recently however, I switched to 1Password as it integrates awesomely into the browser. It's not free, but not very expensive either. It is also available to a number of devices (iOS is supported, and Android is in beta).
