Thunderbird and Fastmail
Hi all,
after some time using FM with its nice webmail interface I decided to give Thunderbird a try. I configured my Thunderbird exactly as decribed in the FM FAQ however if I put IMAP server directory as described in Advanced settings of TB, then the problem begins. TB sees my subscribed folders but I can't access it - I can access Sent Items and its subfolders but I can't access Inbox subfolders (Mailbox does'nt exist is the server reply). When I leave the IMAP server directory blank (default in TB) then I got 2 inboxes in folder structure (one inbox with subfolders created through webmail interface and one default). It is a bit messy but I can access all my folders then. I prefer the appearance of my mailbox obtained by selecting IMAP directory but how to make my Inbox subfolders accessible? Glad for help. |

I have "INBOX." in IMAP Server directory. That is INBOX followed by a period. What do you have?

The rest of my fields on the advanced box:
unchecked: Show only subscribed folders checked: Server supports folders that contain subfolders and messages checked: Use IDLE command maximum server connections: 5 Personal namespace: "INBOX." Public: "" Other users: "user." Which version of TB are you using? Mine is 2.0.0.17 on a Mac. I think my Windows system is the same. |

Still I can only access inbox without subfolders (subfolders visible), Sent items and subfolders. When I leave imap folder blank, I can access all folders. |

This is not a very technical reply, but sometimes I find that IMAP does not always set up properly (not just with Fastmail)
Deleting the account and then recreating it sometimes solves the problem. |

soromak, have you tried just refreshing your folder subscriptions? After setting the root folder path to 'INBOX.' just right-click on the Fastmail account in the left pane, select 'subscribe' then click 'refresh'.

I guess the only solution for me is to use TB with blank imap folder and have 2 inboxes |

I have also other account (not FM) based on cyrus mailstore and no problem there using IMAP SSL. I also noticed one thing. While subscribing in TB I can see Inbox and its substructure twice So while subscribing I see folders in this way: http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/6928/fmkb7.jpg Last edited by soromak : 1 Oct 2008 at 12:28 AM. |

Here is what my subscribed folders screen looks like in Thunderbird, is yours similar?
The reason we use the root folder path of INBOX. is because in Cyrus IMAP everything is a subfolder of INBOX, such as: INBOX.Sent Items INBOX.Drafts By setting the root prefix properly, this 'promotes' the other folders so in the client they appear at the same level as the inbox. There have been issues in the past were users have created subfolders of inbox such as: INBOX.inbox.foldername You haven't done this have you? Everything in your webmail is at the same level? As shown here? Last edited by zhak : 1 Oct 2008 at 12:33 AM. |

Yup, you have the INBOX.inbox situation. I'll need a few minutes to search the forums. I don't recall offhand what you need to do, but I think it just requires cleaning up your folder structure using the webmail folders screen.

Are any of the subfolders of INBOX named inbox? I can't tell in your webmail screenshot, but the subscribed IMAP folders screenshot in TB would suggest so.
