Hi gtliquid,

I didn't know that engineers.net ever belonged to FM. I've got a list of all their user domains and that isn't one of them... When did you start using that? Wonder if they added that without posting it or I missed the post???

Also, Welcome to the EMD Forums

FM's NS server (ns1.messagingengine.com) reports that domain as hosted by FM. gtliquid, are you the owner of the domain "engineers.net"?

No, I am not the owner of engineers.net. I have been using that as my fastmail home domain for about a year. My primary fastmail.fm login is (and has been) vineyard@engineers.net. When I go into the "Home domain" section of the Options page on www.fastmail.fm, engineers.net is indeed in the list of available home domains, and my primary home domain is still set to engineers.net. I am able to login to the web interface, imap, and smtp with the username vineyard@engineers.net. According to the WHOIS record I posted above, it appears that the domain was transferred to Dale Hubbard on July 2 2006.

Bizzare, engineers.net isnt in my drop downs as an available domain, and looking at the way back machine http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.engineers.net I can't see that the domian has ever pointed to Fastmail, unless it was only for 2006.

I agree this is very wierd. A WHOIS on the domain produces the following:
Code:
Registrant:
   This domain is for sale!

   Registered through: Bonus Names
   Domain Name: ENGINEERS.NET

   Domain servers in listed order:
      NS1.ENGINEERS.NET
      NS2.ENGINEERS.NET

For complete domain details go to:
   http://who.securepaynet.net/whoische...domains_azooza
Which would correspond with the history of the website, according to Archive.org. There is a http://mail.engineers.net which points to a variety of web-based e-mail clients, but nothing that corresponds to Fastmail.fm.

Netcraft.net shows that it was hosted at Rackforce as recently as March 19, but it's now it's hosted in an IP block belonging to "APYL Softwares and Systems."

So, at one point in time the domain MX records may have pointed to engineers.net (as a personal domain), but they sure don't look to be that way any longer. Whoever previously registered the domain (not Fastmail but the actual person who registered the domain) should contact their registrar ASAP to resolve the issue.

I don't know what to say. The engineers.net domain has been offered to fastmail customers for over a year. Any fastmail sysadmins are welcome to please check the logs on my account to see when the address was added to your system. I assure you that THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL OR VANITY DOMAIN, it was advertised and sold to me as a bonna-fide fully-supported fastmail home domain. I am at a loss for why it's not showing up in your dropdowns, but I am staring at it in *MY* list of dropdowns as I type this message. engineers.net at one time resolved to fastmail.fm just like all the other official fastmail home domains. PLEASE HELP, I am losing critical work-related email!!! I pay for service from fastmail EXPLICITLY to avoid situations like this - if there was some way I could personally claim ownership of the domain and point it back at fastmail I would have done that by now. No communication was sent to me or posted on the fastmail blogs about the disappearance of the engineers.net domain. If this is somehow no longer an official fastmail home domain, how is it that I became registered under it? Why is the domain no longer supported by fastmail and what do I do in the meantime???

Interestingly, the domain indicated in the engineers.net domain is dalehubbard.com -- point your browser to that site and it's the default Fastmail file storage website error page.

As well as this posting/thread I would contact Fastmail support too, not sure if that channel or this will get you an official response quickest, but at least you'll covered all the angles.

I think I found the answer here.

Looks like it was a none Fastmail service, provided by Fastmail.

The more I trawl through Google I'm finding that until recently Engineers.net did still offer email services via Fastmail, but I cant find any statement about its withdrawral.

http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:9...ient=firefox-a

Im not sure there is anything Fastmail can do other than offer you a different domain, the only other course of action seems to be to get hold of the owners of engineers.net and see if they will help you out, failing that see what form of contract you had with them and then contacting a solicitor.

So there is nothing that can be done??? Why was this domain offered to me as an official fastmail domain if it was not fully owned and supported by fastmail??? Some have suggested contacting an attorney, but who would I direct them to contact? Does fastmail disavow any knowledge of the existence of this domain? I need an official answer from fastmail admins as soon as possible, my personal and confidential emails may have been compromised and there is no way for me to track down which emails have been lost or misdirected. It doesnt help matters that I am in the US (Atlanta, GA), the fastmail DNS is registered in Australia, and the new DNS owner for engineers.net is in the UK. Am I just out of luck here? HOW COULD MY EMAIL ADDRESS JUST DISAPPEAR WITH NO WARNING?!?!?!?!

gtliquid, When I go to www.fastmail.fm and click on "Sign up now" (to the left of "Compare plans") I don't see that domain in the list of choices on the sign up screen. Are you saying you do see that choice there or are you seeing it from a different screen?

Fastmail dont disavowe knowledge of engineers.net

From what I can see Fastmail has a contract with the owners of engineers.net to provide email services for engineers.net

As far as I can see (and this is my summise, not somting I know) it is engineers.net who offered you the email service at Fastmail. Unfortunatly you thought you were contracting with Fastmail, but I dont think you were, I think you were contracting with engineers.net and engineers.net have withdrawn the email service.

Since engineers.net have withdrawn the service I cant see that Fastmail can do anything for you other than offer you a different domain (one they do own).
