FTP server problems
Hi,
For several days problems with the FTP server. First, the server is slower than usually, max 100 Kb/s (I used to have 250 Kb/s) Second, the most important, I get timeout when upload is finished. I tried with different FTP clients. FileZilla log: Command: LIST Response: 150 Opening data connection for file listing. Response: 226 Listing complete. Data connection has been closed. Status: Directory listing successful Status: Starting upload of Z:\dev\clients\Masterprint4\geideon.zip Command: TYPE I Response: 200 TYPE changed to I. Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (66,111,4,57,219,208) Command: STOR geideon.zip Response: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for file geideon.zip. Error: Timeout detected! Also have slow upload from Web file manager. Can we get normal speed back? Remi |

From getting the "150 Opening BINARY mode", how long do you have to wait before the timeout? What about sending big email attachments(say above 1MB) from the web interface. Does that work? If you haven't tried yet, please try and report the results. |

The file get uploaded. But I'm never sure about that because of the timeout.
The speed is also a problem. I'm using Windows 2003 server. Windows version is not important, the FTP client is. FileZilla or n/software ip*works FTP component. I known very well FTP, I wrote a FTP client in C++ (not used here). Remi |

How do you find file attachments/upload speeds to FM over HTTP? Is the problem limited to FTP? If its limited to FTP, can you try an alternate client and see how it goes there. If you have problems with different FTP clients, can you check FTP uploads to a server other than FM, ie., if you have access to one? If not limited to FTP, how do you find large attachment uploads to say gmail over HTTP? |

I reproduce the problem on every machine I have.
I never play with MTU and leave the default value. On a dedicaded Windows server in a data center (yes I have a server ip = xtware.com) A 10Mb file with FileZilla => download time from FM : less than 2 second. Upload time (I have a 100MB symetric connection) 80 Kb/s, speed indicaded by lastest FileZilla version (3.3.0.1) On file sharing web site http://demo.ovh.net speed is normal (symetric). On FTP backup server provided by my hosting company speed is normal. ping -f -l 1472 ftp.messagingengine.com Pinging ftp.messagingengine.com [66.111.4.57] with 1472 bytes of data: Reply from 66.111.4.57: bytes=1472 time=108ms TTL=54 Reply from 66.111.4.57: bytes=1472 time=111ms TTL=54 Reply from 66.111.4.57: bytes=1472 time=112ms TTL=54 Reply from 66.111.4.57: bytes=1472 time=95ms TTL=54 Ping statistics for 66.111.4.57: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 95ms, Maximum = 112ms, Average = 106ms |
