Apparently the name change was in response to a lawsuit by BSkyB who convinced a judge that people could confuse SkyDrive for a Sky internet product.

In other words, it's just a forced rebranding gussied up to look like it means things will get better.

Get better? I don't have any issues with it now. SkyDrive, err OneDrive is a great product. Who cares if they pretend the change wasn't forced. That's just turning something negative into something positive. (People in general should do more of this..)

Don't know whether they changed their TOS in the last year or two, but they used to scan your pictures and delete anything they think is too sexy. Not a good idea when they're trying to persuade people to put all their files on SkyDrive.

In addition, the last time I tried SkyDrive, it took a ridiculously long time (~hours) to discover changed files and upload/download them. It's OK when you only have a handful of files, but as a paying customer I had tens of GB's of files in my SkyDrive. It just sat there doing nothing for several minutes at a time, not even consuming any CPU. Of course I did not renew the subscription.

It's not fun when you need your file NOW on your second device and find out that the 100KB file you edited on your PC yesterday has not been uploaded yet. What's the point of using a file synchronization service when you still need to carry USB sticks around? Never had that problem with Dropbox, although when it comes to privacy and security, Dropbox is a whole different can of worms.

Today is the changeover day to the new name.

And they are offering promotional upgrades. 3 Gb if you back up pictures to the cloud, even with a Android app, 0.5 Gb for refferals (up to 10 for 5 Gb) and such.

Have fun, eh?

Will be using it to sync my phone cam pics with the new OneDrive App. Would have used GooDrive but can't figure out how to do it without Google+ or shrinkage.

Here is the Windows Live code of conduct (looks unchanged from that earlier link from July 2012):

Exactly. The rules seem to have been designed for a public forum where anybody can post anything for the whole world to see. Not for a file backup and synchronization service where people are expected to store private information.

Of course, the problem is that Sky/OneDrive isn't exactly a private file storage service, either. Microsoft expects, and in fact encourages, people to share at least some of their files with other users. So the rules are bound to get a little complicated.

I have the Google Drive App on my Android 'phone - it's easy to upload from the 'phone to the drive:

Open a photo, select the drive icon at the top and then upload it.

And I'm not registered for Google+.

I moved my domain as far away from Microsoft as I could get it.

Until I looked up this Skydrive thing, I hadn't realized that Microsoft gave up on the term Metro for a similar reason in 2012, but never got around to replacing it.

I know you can upload files in OneDrive/GooDrive, but I want automatic sync of DCIM folder.

I set up OneDrive on my tablet only to find it ran a huge process with 3 services. Not suitable for my phone with half the memory. Another problem with MS apps on Android is they don't use the convention of creating one account that all apps can use, instead of sign-in in each app.

That option sounds great in theory, but problematic in practice - especially on a smartphone.

I have my photos saved to my SD Card - I only upload them to GDrive when at home via my wireless connection.

Doesn't Dropbox have the ability to do that? Dropbox also seems to be much less resource-hungry than MS apps.
