The key paragraph in the article:
Quote:
Earlier this year, Republican politicians complained to the FEC that Google was unfairly censoring Republican fundraising emails in Gmail by sending them to spam at a higher rate than Democratic emails.
Republicans want their scammy emails to go straight to your Inbox whether you want them or not. Google was quite correctly sending these straight to Spam.

Some people think that freedom of speech means you are obligated waste your time listening to whatever they have to say (or reading it, or erasing it) .

Well I guess it is okay to get Democratic political spam too.

I don't care one way or the other, I am slowly getting off Gmail.

The funny thing is I have been a registered Democrat since forever and almost never get any emails from them, but I do get endless calls and snail mail. Not sure why that is, but SPAM email is certainly not a problem. My wife, on the other hand, gets stuff from both parties because she is a registered Independent--whatever you do, don't register Independent if you don't want to be endlessly disturbed as elections draw near! Plus, both parties come knocking at our door constantly.

I'm not registered as anything. I don't vote in primaries. I don't vote straight ticket.

I do get emails from candidates (all parties and not a lot) via the email (not Gmail) I used when I registered to vote. It's not bad, in fact I don't mind getting them. I've occasionally received snail mail from candidates too. I have an FPO AP address. I have never received snail mail at my street address. I'm not thrilled with Gmail making these decisions for me. I'm glad I am working my way out of Gmail.

I am not to fond of Gmail's spam filtering overall either. I use a email client that with a spam filter. I would rather get everything and have my spam filter do the job.

In general I find Gmail's spam filtering is the best. It's one of the reasons I continue to use Gmail as one of my primary providers. It is very rare that anything not wanted reaches my inbox, but occasionally I find legit stuff in spam.

What I do is mark all incoming spam as "read" so that I can instantly see when I have an unread spam message. I don't actually "read" most spam messages since I can tell by the subject or sender in most cases whether or not it is legit, but it is nice to know that any legit messages that go there will be highlighted in my Gmail inbox. At a guess I would say maybe one legit message a week goes there, but they are almost always just marketing messages that are not really spam. In other words, it is very rare for something important to end up there. Not sure why it is, but I get very few spam messages these days. I count 6 in the last week, and there was one marketing message from Microsoft that was legit that I moved to the inbox.
