FYI - Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirms censored China search engine

FYI -- https://www.engadget.com/2018/10/16/...search-engine/

Fascinating interview -- lots of insights into Google as a company from its CEO Sundar Pichai. Lots of relevant info for this forum.

For me, personally, this is the final nail in the coffin for my business using paid Google services (such as G Suite). Naturally, everyone has their own POV on issues like this, and it may seem like an overreaction to some of you, but now that this censored search engine product is officially confirmed, I'm now planning on transitioning all my paid business accounts out of G Suite.

Personally, I'm not sure what my reaction is. Surprise? No. Shock? No. Disappointment? Maybe. Disgust? No. These things are never black and white. Might it be better to at least engage with China in the hopes that the popularity of Google products will gradually erode resistance to engaging with the broader world? I can see that argument, while I also can understand those who maybe feel that participating in a repressive country is simply wrong. However, as a tourist I have traveled and spent money in places where I disagreed with the government's treatment of its citizens. Is that just as bad? Isn't simply visiting China engaging with the regime and its many problems?

Great points of course, TenFour. Edit of my big long reply -- I just learned that Microsoft also filters search results for Bing in China. Been doing more research, found lots of surprising info, I have to put that into the mix. Sigh. Looks like freedom of speech is being assaulted more than I previously understood.
