"Sorry we can't Preview..."

I've been getting "sorry we can't preview this file" on all my attachments. Does Fastmail support previews of some kinds of attachments and not others? Is there something I can do to make it possible to preview these?

(.pdfs, .zip files, and other filetypes...)

any info would be helpful, I'm finding this an annoying "new feature".

Try going to settings, then preferences and tick always load external content. If that does not work then try Fastmail support.

That doesn’t work. Same problem here on iPad (iOS 12.1.1). This did not happen with the previous version.

Sorry they did not mention iPad or phone usage.

Just started having this same problem. Not sure how many attachment types it affects, but it does affect all .docx files. The change suggested above does not help.

However: if I use Firefox, I have no option but to download the file. If I use Chrome, then when I click Download the file immediately opens and I can view it, and then have the option to save. So the workaround is to use Chrome. Have opened a ticket with support about this, since I am not sure why it has now started happening, and I would really rather use Firefox.

That's determined by the browser, not the web page. See Firefox Settings/Applications.

I am having the same issue for a couple of months already, e.g. when clicking an Excel attachment. (PDF works fine, it's shown inline)
I have it both on my Android 9 phone and in Chrome on my desktop.
My wife recently complained to me about it as well.

After reading this thread it is still unclear to me how to fix it.
I would be grateful for any clues, as it's rather annoying.

Sure. Being able to open them is not the issue.
I now open them by (having to) click "download, and then clicking the downloaded file to open it.

The issue is that it's not as convenient as it can be (especially on a phone IMO), or as convenient as it used to be a year or so ago. It's now 1 or 2 extra clicks.

Yes I agree, I really don't know why they changed it as sometimes I would like to have a quick read and then delete.

Why does F/m keep taking features away, the way things are going will we have any features left.

I have really had enough of recent feature removals.
