I'll admit that I was reading very fast, skimming, so maybe I missed something, but one thing I didn't see is if there's an expiration cut-off, and if you're required to keep an alternative email address.

I know. It will take a little more time to completely ween off the GOOG teet.

Has anyone been using ProtonMail lately? How is it?

I haven't used it recently. The last time I did, I used it to 'tell' someone a username/password. I figured it safe, since the person already knew what it was for and where to go, and I used the 'expiration' feature..

I haven't tested protonmail because account creation is closed..

Honestly, this project is taking way too long..

I've only used it occasionally for sending (just test messages at this point), and it has worked fine. I do use it as a secondary back up for emails, but other than that I don't really do much with it at the moment, since it still is very limited preference-wise. I'd be happy just being able to create a folder for storage and to be able to send email using my FM address in the from field.

I'm not looking for huge improvements before 2015, but I'll keep checking in on them.

I use it on and off. It is feature limited but stable. I wish we could at least create an Archive folder instead of keeping everything in the inbox. But for what it does, it does it well so far.

Good point. Maybe it will be worthwhile to give them another year and check in again.

Funny enough, I start developing similar service, right after saw them on indiegogo. Sadly enough, at least for them, now i finished scryptmail[dot]com service, which encrypt not just emails, but attachments as well, when protonmail still send attachments unencrypted.

PGP standarts and NIST recomendations
standarts should be standards, and recomendations should be recommendations.

Looks interesting though!

In the comments section of the page discussing their most recent beta version (1.11) is the following Q/A:

Do you have an idea how soon invites will be sent out for new accounts ?
Is 1/2 months a realistic time frame or much more than that .
looking forward to signing up
thanks

We are shooting to have everyone invited within the next 6 weeks. You can send your username to contact@protonmail.ch to see where you are on the list.
The same comment thread indicates that folder management (or at least creation) is coming soon. And aliases are going to be introduced at some point as well.

Just looking how fast they respond, I wouldn't trust in 6 weeks delivery Especially, service taking forever to implement even a basic features as saving email in the draft folder.
