FastMail status page confirms the outage.

EDIT: According to Pingdom, IMAP, POP and secondary MX access is still up. Network availability to New Jersey reports as normal, so it is unclear why web access is disrupted.

I'm not sure how Pingdom works. However, in this case it appears that the servers are accessible but not operational. I (and others) get the 502 Bad Gateway page. That's actually coming from fastmail.com, so we are reaching the server. My understanding from other experience is that 502 Bad Gateway indicates that the front-end server is having trouble reaching the back-end (database) server.

Oh, and while I was writing this, IMAP and web access was restored.

Up for me now in the UK at 20:10 BST although Fastmail Status says:-
Quote:
We're experiencing a distributed denial of service attack. This affects your ability to login on the web & mobile. It may also create delays sending & receiving mail. We're working with our network provider to resolve this. We'll post more information as it is available.

Was down for me in Colorado for about an hour total. Could not access via iOS, MacOS or Fastmail website. All has been fine since it came back up.

First outage (at least that I was around to notice) in the 2 years I've been using it.

DDoS attacks can be a real pain, especially if the attack has different characteristics from those the service has seen before. FastMail has generally been pretty good at ameliorating the effects of these attacks. Seriously degraded service for an hour or so is annoying, of course, but other services are sometimes impacted for a day or more.
