Cool What system sounds do you use?

Inspired by this thread.

For Windows Menu Popup, I usually use a sound cribbed from an AOL trial setup which Windows itself installed on a machine I used once; it sounds like a drop of water.  For Windows Menu Command, I use another from the same source, a sort of "shimmering" beep/chime which sounds like a spell being cast (indeed, I think it's actually called MAGIC.WAV).  (An inportant thing to note about the WMC sound is that it must be a second or less in duration, so that it's finished playing by the time the application you've invoked launches; else Windows or the application might think the soundcard is in use and not available.)

I once did a lot of short sampling from CDs to make a "Radio" theme for myself (don't know how to tie an icon to it), with things such as the Recycle sound being "Throw it all away" from Michael Caine by Madness.

For WS_FTP32's "Connected" sound I use a Star Trek clip I got off a magazine cover CD years ago; "Security authorisation accepted."  For "Completed" I use the other clip I got form the same source; "No temporal anomalies have been reported." For the "Error" sound I use David Bowie singing "Ground Control to Major Tom, your circuit's dead, there's something wrong..."

I went by default with Win XP. It is a lot better than 98 or 2000 in terms of appearance so I don't have to tweak it...

But (as my WS_FTP32 sounds illustrate) having your own custom scheme can be a lot more fun...

Just to remind people, I'd like to hear about custom sound schemes, not those where people have left it to Bill Gates or Steve Jobs...

I am soundless...or my iBook is, rather. But on our family's old Mac back in the early 90's, I replaced the standard bleep with an Axl Rose sample, quite brilliant...

Well considering Win98 seems to gets sick of itself every few months I kinda have lost the motivation to change sounds, cause I know that sooner or later I am gonna have the pleasure of to reinstalling it all overagain...

Hey, Robert, "Space Oddity" is my most favorite David Bowie album.
BTW, I use no sounds.
