Spy code from Google

A new thing when I go to https://secure.runbox.com is that I get a pop-up saying that "This page conatins bioth secure and nonsecure items." etc.

Why is that? Is it because of the Google user spying code:

I am really sceptical towards Google these days and I am not very fond of this. Let alone that I am spied upon by Google, I must also make an extra decision and click each time before I can log in. That is really annoying, especially being a paying customer.

(I would love for anyone to point me to a better web-based way in to my runbox, w/o this.)

It's not spying code.

It's google analytics. Runbox must be using it to study how users use their website.

In my book, what you write is a definition of "spying code" (I did notice the smiley...)

Furthermore, there is a cookie that is only written to my disk if I answer yes to the dialog mentioned above. This leads me to believe that the cookie is connected to Google, although its name is <>@secure.runbox.com. There is something mentioned in the Runbox help of cookies, and that the functionality depends on that you allow cookies, but nothing is said of Google. And Google is hardly a necessity for runbox' functionality?

What does this statistics collect from me? My password? Whether I read "viagra mails"?

I do appreciate your answer, but I still think that this is "fishy". I have read about Googles actions with this statistics, and I am aware of their saying "do no evil" - but I am not convinced.

And I am still rather annoyed with the extra dialog popping up each time.

I would also like for Runbox to be very restrictive and very open with collecting information about users' habits.

We're trying to track how well our Google ads are doing, i.e. how many new users sign up or even get to our site, from those. As an existing users, it tracks absolutely nothing.

The tracking service should be https also - no?

You can set your browser not to warn you - but I'll have to ask Geir whether it can be changed!

Hi there

If it is to monitor your ROI, conversion funnel, etc., is it necessary to track the main https://secure.runbox.com ? Because I can't remember any ads sending you on the secured URL, but I might be wrong on this one

You're right -- I've removed it from the Secure (SSL) version now.

We're doing OK here all things considered -- but we will be doing much better very soon!

Just an FYI -- you will get a much "leaner" login page if you try adding "/mail" to the end of the URL instead, as in:

https://secure.runbox.com/mail

That's the one I've got bookmarked.
