And another great Rush lyric (reading their lyrics, you'd never guess they're a thrash-metal band):

Sting & The Police - Englishman in New York
"It takes more than combat gear to make a man, It takes more than a license for a gun Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can A gentleman will walk but never run. If "manners maketh man." as someone said He's a hero of the day Takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile Be yourself no matter what they say" |

I remember the days when I was so eager to satisfy you
And be less then I was just to prove I could walk beside you Now that I've flown away I see you've chosen to stay behind me And still you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself It's so much easier to stay down there guaranteeing you're cool Than to sit up here exposing myself trying to break through Than to burn in the spotlight, turn in the spitfire Scream without making a sound, be up here and not look down because we're all afraid of heights Nelly Furtado - On the radio (remember the days) |

"Six foot six he stood on the ground,
he weighed two hundred and thirty five pounds, but I saw this giant of a man brought down to his knees by love. He was the kinda guy that would gamble on luck, look you in the eye and never back up, but I saw him crying like a little whipped pup because of love. You can't see it with your eyes, or hold it in your hand, but like the wind that covers our land, it's strong enough to rule the heart of any man this thing called love. It can lift you up, never let you down, take your world and turn it all around, ever since time nothin's ever been found that's stronger than love". 'Thing Called Love' ~ (the late great) Johnny Cash Malc |

Jethro Tull
He once owned a Harley Davidson and a Triumph Bonneville.
Counted his friends in burned-out spark plugs and prays that he always will. But he's the last of the blue blood greaser boys all of his mates are doing time: married with three kids up by the ring road sold their souls straight down the line. And some of them own little sports cars and meet at the tennis club do's. For drinks on a Sunday --- work on Monday. They've thrown away their blue suede shoes. Now they're too old to Rock'n'Roll and they're too young to die. -- From "Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die" by Jethro Tull (1976) |

OMG, music is my life. I could be here ALL day/night posting favorites. Most, of course, are 'oldies' seeing as how I'm 52. But I actually 'listen' to WHAT the words are saying, thus it gives it so much more meaning. Take my cable, take my TV, but whatever you do, don't ever take my music away from me! I was pleasantly surprised to see so many of the male gender post some tender, romantic lyrics here. There seems to be so few that take the time to feel (or care) romantically inclined anymore. Or understanding to the hurt & pain that many suffer. I must admit, I was shocked that no one immediately recognized the lyric's of Selena. Though maybe I did, because I had to watch the movie like 20 times with my 2 girls! LOL I was going to start with 2 of my old time favorites that its highly doubtful anyone has EVER heard, but one of them I must go search for the exact words, so I'll post these two. this first one, came to have much meaning to me, after meeting someone online, that became my 'best friend' for well over 2 years. (i was not aware that one could make such a deep friendship via online!) then something happened & even though we still care very deeply for each other, we very seldom get a chance to talk anymore. the lyric's: i've saved the summer and i give it all to you to hold on winter mornings when the snow is new i've saved some sunlight if you should ever need a place away from darkness where your mind can feed i know no answers to help you on your way the answers lie somewhere the bottom of the day but if you've a need for love i'll give you all i own it might help you down the road til you've found your own i've saved the summer saved the summer i've saved the summer -------now, i'm just going to sit on this one & see, if by chance, anyone out there has any idea who it's by. granted, it's by someone that most everybody likely 'hates' his music, (if they've EVEN heard any of it), but a lot of folks enjoy his books. ******** my next one,,,,,well,,,,,,,i dated the manager of a local band for a very long time way back in the 70's. he also played organ/piano. he wrote a few for me, i wrote a few for him. this one, i wrote in 1996, many many long years after our relationship was over, but yet he recorded it: I reflect on memories of yester-year, That bring traces of tears- And hints of laughter, Entwined together from that magical era. Never before, And never since, Have I known Such agony and suffering, So much pain - So many tears. But at the same time - The highest heights of paradise, The brightess glow of the sun - My life has ever known. Your love enveloped me slowly - my body - my heart - And ultimately my very SOUL. Until I was consumed with emotions so intense, I cried out with the pure rapture of your love. These long years later, There are no regrets, For shall my life on earth come to end -- I know: I have lived my life, I have had the pain, the heartaches - I have had the sorrow. But through it all - I have the reflections --------- Of the joy - the ecstasy, The sunshine so bright. Of knowing YOUR LOVE - So powerful It OWNED my very soul and allowed me to feel what many never have. So NO regrets - NO sorrow - Distant man. For you and I Soared high in the skies And captured the shimmering stars -- And that time of loving ------- Shall ---- ALWAYS BE !! --(drb) November 1996 --(for Glenn) ******** I could sit here all day/night posting favorite lyrics as music is so much a part of me, but i'll leave you with this: some times in our lives we all have pain we all have sorrow but if we are wise we know that there's always tomorrow lean on me when you're not strong and i'll be your friend i'll help you carry on for it won't be long til i'm gonna need somebody to lean on ,,,,,,,,,,,, lean on me when you're not strong and i'll be your friend i'll help you carry on for it won't be long til i'm gonna need somebody to lean on you just call lonely brother when you need a hand we all need somebody to lean on ----al greene (one of the greatest of all times!!) Until next time,,,,,, Diane |

Dianne, I love 'Lean on me' it makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck but surely this was by the great Bill Withers? did Al Green do it too? I assumed it was written by Bill though.

I'm assuming no one was the slightest bit interested in this one:
Quote:
Clouds are not the cheeks of angels you know they're only clouds. Friendly sometimes, but you can never be sure. If I had longer arms I'd push the clouds away or make them hang above the water somewhere else, but I'm just a man who needs and wants, mostly things he'll never have. Looking for that thing that's hardest to find - - - I've been going a long time now along the way I've learned some things. You have to make the good times yourself take the little times and make them into big times and save the times that are alright for the ones that aren't so good. I've never been able to push the clouds away by myself. Help me. Please. -----Rod McKuen (Listen to the Warm) Diane I still have to find the 'exact' words to one of my best favorites, that it's likely not many (if any at all) would recognize, though anyone that is close to me in age, knows some of his other music quite well. |
