Kylie was just in the right place at the right time.

I should be so lucky!
Next time I see Pete I'll pass on your compliment

I do agree to a large extent with what you have said, a lot of SAW music is drivel manufactured to cater for a particular audience at a particular time.

Kim WIlde is another example of this. In my opinion she cannot sing for a toffee but happened to have the right physical attributes (as does Kylie) and the right connections to achieve a moderate degree of success.

If only YouTube had been around in the 1960's, and we had quality videos of Chicago like this!

I'm A Man - Chicago (Leonid & Friends cover):

Actually, the Manics initially wanted Kylie to do the female vocals on "Little baby nothing" as they thought she fitted perfect for a song about the strength of women in a male-dominated industry(/world?). But as Kylie was unavailable, they chose Traci instead.

Didn't they perform the song live with Kylie a few times, or is that just a rumour?

But in any ways, there was some sort of link between the Manics and Kylie.

How come I never mentioned The Connells in here? I'm a fan, and I listen to them very often, but apparently I haven't mentioned them in this topic. Currently listening to them, songs played in order of appearance:

"Scotty's Lament"
"Darker days"
"Over there"
"Seven" (now playing)

"Seven" and "Darker days" are off the first album ("Darker days"), when the band drew comparisons with The Smiths in the press, including a local magazine naming them "Raleigh's local depressants". Their music evolved a lot throughout their career. Vocalist Doug MacMillan also changed vocal style quite radically after that first album, which makes people sometimes wrongly assume that the band changed vocalist. They never did though.

This band is so underrated it's almost criminal. Also, people should stop comparing them to REM. They both have jangle influences in their music, they both hail from the American South, they both started off in the 80s. There the comparison stops.

It's so sad that people often call them a "one hit wonder" based on the success of "74-75" in Europe, while they have so many good songs. They're working on a new album now, they had record company problems for years but it seems the new album is finally coming now. Hopefully there will be a tour with European dates included, although I doubt it given the lack of fame of their songs other than "74-75" here. Guess I'll have to catch a flight to Raleigh at some point if I ever wanna see them live.

now listening to Kirlian Camera - "K-Pax"

A very dreamy song, with some very poetic lyrics. I recommend to listen with headphones on, as there are a lot of sound effects and background noises in the song, which act to the dreamy effect of the song and could be lost if not listening with headphones. The song takes its title from a film of the same name.
Kirlian Camera are from Italy and first started off doing "Italo dance", but they later shifted towards a darker sound, giving them a fanbase within the gothic community amongst others. They have performed at festivals such as the famous Wave-Gothic Treffen in Leipzig.

Been revisiting Chicago since this post, forgot how good they were!

This week, I must have listened to "Introduction" - from their first album released in 1969 - quite a few times.

Quite simply a masterpiece!
