Windows Live Mail Beta - Page 2

Today - 1.5 months after I asked for an invitation - I received an email that states that from now on, I can use Live Mail Beta. Tried it for a couple of hours, and it's great!

I think screenshots are not allowed because of the beta test agreement. Finally, I have received my invitation ... and I have been unable to activate it because I am under 18 years (Not, sadly not), I have children protection activated (if so, why I receive so many viagra spam messages) or it is not available for my country.

Therefore, I have decided to live in the US

and, after that, configure my account in spanish.

It seems a good service, but not as good I hope. First, it does not work with a browser different than IE. Second, HTML composition is really bad: no tables, no images, no ... (well, images and tables are possible if you cut/copy and paste them into the editor).

But, most importantly is that it have needed more than 4 hours to send a message from Hotmail to my Yahoo! Spain email account (when sent using Netaddress, it is received almost immediately).

Got the live mail beta... ok, I'm about to be blown away, I thought. Not so.... Like Live.com, I'm still not into the "pretty" stuff with the same old features. I liken it to putting a 'Vette body over a Pinto. Nice body, engine still sucks.

-Need IMAP on the paid offering.

-Shared online calendar does not have a monthly view.

-Sometimes when I click on a link (mail, etc) my browser will lose the top row navigation (have to start over).

-Can't see how much space I have.

In addition, I hate that Google started 100-year beta offering... and the now often copied "referral signup." Then again, what is the difference in tagging beta on it, or releasing it as-is.

In all, I’m not too impressed with the new Live Email from hotmail (and I’m a big Microsoft fan… ya, I said it).

Actually, Windows Live Mail Beta is offering 2 GB of storage quota. And, as you can see at the "feedback page" (http://join.msn.com/mailbeta/feedback), the indicator of storage used is in development.

I also had my question answered about having a product in beta. However, I've not verified if this is true....

"the bigger picture with beta means not having to explain to one's shareholders how a product or service will impact earnings as they would with a formally released product."

I received a beta invitation a couple of days ago (I applied a long time ago)

Just wanted to say that this new beta service is (almost) unusable, unless you are using a late IE web browser.

I have tested with IE 5.2 for Mac (OS X) and the latest Mozillla web browser versions, on both Linux and OS X.

You can see folders (and read messages) and you can delete messages from your inbox. You can create messages - but not much else. You cannot even move messages between folders.

Most features are not supported, even features that one would consider basic, that would work in any Alpha version.

I have the option to change back (to regular hotmail) but, as I very rarely receive (or send) mail from this account, I will wait and see what happens. Hotmail indicate that other web browsers will be supported soon.

Yes, it can get worse: if, once you have get to type and send your message, this message never arrives to the addressee

And, in my tests, this is something that happens very frequently with this new system (sending and receiving).

And you cannot guess how ridiculous is seeing what have printed when I have tested it with a heavily formatted email message (heavily formatted, but correctly displayed in the screen and no special problem for Yahoo!, Gmail, PumaPost and other SquirrelMail services, Inbox.com, FastMail.fm and so on. The message have been compressed vertically in the first 8 cms. at the left of the page!!!!

Do they implement the features gradually? The only difference in mine is that my inbox is now 2000 MB. Other than that, I can't see any changes.

I have the same thing, kchess, and I think after I clicked on the link in the sign up email, it said I'd be able to use the new email interface within 2 weeks. However, my storage immediately went up to 2 gb.
