Anybody still using @AIM.com ?

I still have a couple of free @aim.com email accounts.

I had them set up in Outlook 365 desktop.
Between Sep 10th & Sep 13th (2021) IMAP stopped working for these accounts.

I tried changing my settings but no luck.

I can still log into webmail.
I can log in with name@aim.com, name, or name@aol.com .

I sent a message to the PostMaster but only received an automated reply.

I tried setting up POP retrieval in GMail. (Check mail from other accounts).
That didn't work either.

There doesn't seem to be an option to automatically forward email.

Are you currently using AOL mail, and are not a a Verizon customer?

I do. Unfortunately I use it with POP3 not IMAP.

The account is actually a former netscape.net account. I now use aim.com for that address. The netscape.net address, as well as aol.com are also functional for this account.

I am using AOL URL's for POP3 and SMTP.

pop.aol.com:995
smtp.aol.com:465
Both using SSL/TLS


That automated reply is hilarious.

I'm glad that it's working for you.

I tried setting up POP in both Outlook 365 and GMail.
Maybe it's just my accounts.
I thought that it might be my ISP (Shaw.ca), but I would think that wouldn't affect setting up POP in GMail.

I event tried changing the password on one of my accounts, but same results.

I'll have to try from a different computer in a different location and see if that makes a difference.

btw, the error message trying to POP from GMail was

I had an AIM email acct but AOL deleted it,im not sure why....My AIM name kept working but my email acct was gone.....

Whats the URL to login to that now?? (Ill try again)

I went ahead an setup an IMAP account in my email client (Claws Mail).

I used the information I found here to configure this account.

One thing I had to do was generate an app password. Since I already did this for my POP3 access account. I used that password and it all worked.

Basically to log in via my browser, I use one password. To log in with my email client I use the password created when generating an app password.

Setting up an App Password got things working again.

And imap.aim.com and smtp.aim.com still work too.

I was seeing a page saying that they were both part of Verizon.
Now when logged into AOL, under Options, when I click Terms of Services I am taken to ...

I checked my Yahoo account and it appears that I had set up an App Password for "Outlook Desktop". I had only been using my laptop for a few months and I was still trying to get things working. I only have vague memory.
With Yahoo I did receive an email warning me to set up an App Password.

I forgot about it, until one day I couldn't get in using my email client. In fact when I was troubleshooting IMAP, I forgot and was scratching my head for while trying to figure it out. I getting in via the web, but not my client. I checked my password program and saw the note for App Password. Ah Ha!

It was the "older, less secure apps/services" that threw me.

I didn't think that "older" applied to Outlook 365.
