yahoo problems

my main yahoo account is beginning to act up
I click on inbox and after a 30 second wait a window comes up ... you ve hit on
a problem sorry etc
after about the 3rd attempt I finally get
through to my e mail.

But now when Im on an e mail the back button is n't working and its often a pain to get back on the e mail list.

Im on yahoo classic e mail the free version.

Ive got a suspicion that when a yahoo account is about 4 years old with lots on it... folders etc... it begins to break down or wear out ... something goes wrong... its happened for me before.

I have a few other yahoo accounts, little used.. that dont have this problem
they change pages quickly and work perfectly.

I don't want to lose my old e mail address it has tons of stuff linked to it, yahoo groups etc.

is there any way I could divert all the incoming e mail to that account to one of my other yahoo e mail accounts ?

I v'e looked into filters but they seem just to divert e mail from one incoming address
thanks for any help or comment

Problems might occur because of massive storage (if you have gigabytes of stored mail or many many folders) but I would doubt that the age of the account had anything to do with it.

My mobile provider give me the option to get push email access to my POP accounts and I have my Yahoo account set up in this fashion (the service is supplied by a company called 'Visto')

Sometimes I happen to be home (using my computer) when an alert comes in to my smartphone, notifying me of a message in my Yahoo inbox. If at this time I try to access my Yahoo email account using my desktop computer I am unable to do so and receive similar errors to what you are indicating. If I wait ten minutes the problem disappears.

Note: the above may not be anything at all to do with what is happening with your account jess.

Whatever else you can say about GMX.com, they do download mail from any Yahoo account, including free Yahoo.com accounts, and then allow access via POP3 or IMAP.

You do need to get the Yahoo mail into the inbox, though.

Of course, last I heard, you can still get direct POP or Forwarding from a Yahoo.com account for yearly fee.

It's only the US yahoo accounts that don't allow free POP or forwarding AFAIK.

Yes, only Yahoo.com accounts don't have POP or Forwarding, which is why I was specfic. The original questioner seemed to want to be able to get mail out of their account, which made me presume it did not have free mail server access.

As to US, Yahoo.com has been used by people in many countries, and none have free POP/Forwarding. You can't just change locale and get free access.

And many people in the US have accounts that have a different domain name and get free POP/Forwarding; in fact the new Ymail.com comes with it.

It's Yahoo.com accounts that are limited, not US accounts.

If you have POP/Forwarding enabled in your Yahoo account, yes, you can divert mail to another Yahoo account.

If you don't have POP/Forwarding enabled in your Yahoo account, you can pay to have it enabled.

If do not have POP/Forwarding enabled and you don't want to pay for it, you can use a free GMX account to divert mail to another Yahoo account.

In this case, you set up GMX to collect your mail from your Yahoo inbox, and also set up GMX to forward incoming mail to another Yahoo account (or any other addresses). The result is mail from one Yahoo account is diverted to another account (and also copied in a GMX account.)

No hijacking. I offered a solution, and David had some comments on it.

Is that clear enough for you now?

thanks but with all that talk about POPs
and mobiles... I thought you'd gone off
on a tangent.
Ill have to check out the GMX account
that just might be the solution
Going thru my main yahoo e mail is becoming time consuming and even the back button won t get me back to the e mail list.
Yet I go onto Hot mail and G mail and
everything is instant, I suspect they have
far better servers than Yahoo.
Maybe its time I gave up my addiction to Yahoo and looked farther afeild !

BUT then again... by relaying my e mails through GMX ... am I losing privacy ?

I mentioned the problem with my 'mobile' only because I received a similar error to what you received and thought there might be a connection. I had no intention of trying to hijack the thread

Nothing on the internet is absolutely private. You have to trust the provider, and GMX has a long record of quality service from Germany, which has strong legal protections.

If you want total security, encrypt, and then hope you have nothing than interests the government agencies.

I think it does, I have two Yahoo accounts, one is much newer than the other, and I can have one not work (like the other day), where it wouldn't let me in, yet the other one did. Because you're talking different code from several years back and all.

Anyway, hope things got worked out.

I don't have link now but yahoo knew about the problem and told us that they worked hard to get it fixed and most likely if you try now it should be fixed or if you write them they would fix your account if they didn't knew it had trouble.

this did happen to me too and I was lucky to find the blog telling about it and I thought of going to EMD but it was late at night and me need to sleep and next morning me forgot about it.

Thanks, but I despair of yahoo, this happened to me
before on an account I used as my main account
they tried to sort things out but in the end I just abandonned it and
began my present account

Three years down the line everything is going wrong again.

I ve had a look around hotmail and everything is instant
I read an e mail, click the back button and Im back on my e
mail list
that would take me about 4 mins in my yahoo account !
you get so frustrated.

Another thing on yahoo that drove me mad was that I could nt
tell if an e mail was read or not.
There is supposed to be a darker colour on the read e mails
but often I just could nt see anything.

with hotmail there is a yellow mark alongside all the e mails
that have nt been read.... so another problem solved !

Hotmail also have the ability to import e mail from a yahoo
account
but it requires that yahoo have the POPs facility available
.... maybe on the free account it isnt there ?

But already Ive started withdrawing things from my yahoo account, changeing addy addresses in forums etc

Its a drag but yahoo is becoming a pain.

they seem to have introduced some kind of live chat facility in
the e mail just lately too, maybe that has increased my problems

also maybe they want people to move from the classic into
the beta... which Ive never liked the look of.

i have a feeling that gmail and hotmail are the future
and with firefox, I don t even have to sign in !
