open next email on delete

Is there a setting that will configure what happens when reading and deleting an email? Currently, when I open and am reading an email, I click "delete", and I am taken back to the list of emails in my inbox. What I want to happen when I click "delete" is that the next email in my inbox opens so that I can read it. I have never seen a webmail client that required me to manually open each and every email in this way. Perhaps there is a setting to modify this behaviour?

I should add that when I am reading some 50 emails or more, this is really, really annoying.
