Yes, it was the first commercial disk drive data storage system. The IBM 305 RAMAC used a vacuum tube based computer, and vacuum tubes controlled the disk drive unit. Individual transistor (not integrated circuit) computers were introduced in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. By 1970, computers used integrated circuits.
