Yahoo sold to US telecoms giant Verizon

Yahoo sold to US telecoms giant Verizon.

Verizon now has AOL and Yahoo, a lot of duplication. Things will get merged, some Yahoo features will be dropped. Nothing happens until 2017.

Not impressed with their mail, the only reason I have an account there is for a Yahoo group.

microsoft must be laughing all the way to the bank. A few years back they offered to buy yahoo for 40+ BILLION, and yahoo refused.

Will this have any implications on other Yahoo services than email, for example Flickr? I was considering opening a Flickr account for the purpose of hosting my photo portfolio because I thought it may get more traffic than the paid host (which is very reliable but less users and less traffic than Flickr.com) I'm using now. But would this purchase of Yahoo by another company have any impact on Flickr?

The answers to these questions are unknown to us. I suspect that Verizon exec's will make business plans over the next several months and gradually let the public know (IMHO).

I was considering having my photo portfolio to Flickr because of the many users to interact with and the lots of exposure due to the fact that Flickr.com is so frequently visited. I'll better think twice ... Stability means a lot to me internet-wise ; I don't like the idea of having to move +15000 pictures frequently because the host is changing their plans ...
