Gift to another Fastmail User

If you have or put money in your account pool with Fastmail, can you transfer that to another Fastmail account...say, to give the gift of upgrade to another user?

I tried to find this info in FM help, but could not locate the answer.

I couldn't really tell from those links whether you could use your own account pool or not.

a. Add money to your account pool (add the amount that you plan to send as a gift certificate)
b. Click on Options --> Purchase Gift Certificate
c. Enter the Gift amount in US$
d. For "Recipient's email address:", enter the email address of the person you want to send the gift certificate to (you can even send yourself a gift certificate).
e. Enter a greeting and finally click on "Buy Certificate".

The gift certificate will be sent to the email address you entered and you will receive an email confirming your purchase.

Okay...I just was not sure if it would work that way, or if they would charge the credit card for it.

We always notify you and confirm your details before we use your credit card - so there's no harm in trying any time you're not sure.

I did this a few weeks ago. You need to add the funds to your Fastmail account, then file a support request and ask to transfer a specific amount to the other user (specifying their main account address). It used to be an online form, but it was rarely used so Fastmail changed this to a manual process a couple of years ago. I have some friends whose birthday present from me is refreshing their Fastmail account when it runs out.

I would say "yes", but I don't work for Fastmail. I do believe that features which are rarely used should not be placed in software. My guess is that a very tiny fraction of Fastmail users sent funds in this fashion, and I'm guessing that there were risks to such a user funds transfer system that they would rather handle with manual intervention.
