Lightbulb Lus.com

Lus.com is a Zimbra based, free email service with the a full range of Zimbra options comparable or better than Lycos' Zimbra interface but faster and smoother as far as I have seen. On test, both send and receive functions worked and quickly. Registration will require a working alternative email address to activate registration. Lus.com also uses an ingenious, simple, and unique method for thwarting robot auto registrations by requiring the registrant to complete a simple mathematical equation with the correct answer, so brush up on your math people. I haven't seen any other email service do this. The features listed are as follows:

*Compose and send new mail messages
* Read and reply to mail messages
* Track mail exchanges using the Conversation feature or optionally switch to a traditional message view

They must not have many users (yet). I just signed up using my (relatively common) first name (5 letters).

The site contains practically no information about its services. No T&C. No information who runs lus.com. The page title is Hot Deals, Coupon codes, free Email account, News, lus mail So email deserves only the 3rd place....

In brief: unprofessional.

Agreed.

There is a link to the Terms of Sevice on the Regristration page.

I could not find a Privacy Statement.

I could not find anything about a storage quota either.

ok, I looked for them on the home page only....

The final paragraph of the Terms of Service reads:
Quote:
others
1. use of lus.com account to send and receive spamm messages is prohibited.
2. you should not register multiple accounts.
3. if you did not used your accout in 3 monthes, your account maybe deleted automatically by the system.
4. violent the above terms may result deleting of your account.
This makes a typical Nigerian 419 Letter word-prefect in comparison....

ha, love the grammatical incorrectedness

I registered my short, 5-letter first name, just in case

So where is this lus.com located? Anybody know?

Anyway. I registered and logged in for the first time. Moved away from the site, came back and logged in. This is the message I get:

"The username or password is incorrect. Verify that CAPS LOCK is not on, and then retype the current username and password."

The username and password are correct. I've tried to log in several times. Nothing. So goodbye lus.com. Thanks for the memories.

Ennis,

Sorry to hear about those problems with your account.

Both of my accounts are working just fine.

The only issue I had was with java script. I use Firefox with the no script extension and I couldn't log on until I allowed scripts.

Doesn't sound like your problem though.

Good luck................

I doubt I'd ever use it for anything important, but in all fairness I must report that every test I've put it through since creating an account ten days ago has been passed without any problems and the interface works well and is responsive, even the basic slow-speed interface. I agree that it seems to lack some things whose absence is surprising and perhaps "unprofessional" (as has been noted in this thread), and yes, the grammar is deplorable. But hey, it works! Just don't use it for anything crucial.

Ennis, a domain name whois search shows a registrant with an asian name and an address in Illinois. For some reason I keep getting this mental image of a high school kid trying to be entrepreneurish and make some money on the side with ad-based mail services. If so, more power to him Like communicant, however, I don't think I would put anything crucial in that account. Especially not anything related to important financial info or anything that could potentially be used by a hacker

I took a look at the ToS for the amusement value and was slightly disappointed to find he'd updated it with a more professional one - the English there is now perfectly decent (Still crappy on some of the other status updates though )

Am slightly disappointed. Didn't read the original post thoroughly and signed up for fun, thinking there'd be pop3/smtp. Doesn't look like it though, or at least I can't find any server info in the help/FAQ pages. Too bad, will probably let the account die if it's web-only. Also - the ajax interface fails to work with opera. Sigh. Had to default to standard html view just to get working clickable interface links. Overall, so far I have to say I'm not really impressed. Too much trouble keeping it alive!
