Encrypted Email Service Tutanota Denies It's a 'Honeypot' for Five Eyes Intelligence

For years, Tutanota (which recently rebranded to "Tuta") has been a trusted email provider. A former Canadian cop has accused it of being a honeypot.

I use md5 for passwd encryption.
I use imap encryption plugin for safe storage.
But if I ( and every provider) do want to check user’s mail,
Then we can!
Don’t trust any encryption email.

What made you decide to take such a leap? Have you considered OnMail's gathering and usage of information (whatever that might be)?

Interesting. I have always believed that the "Five Eyes" could access any email they wanted to, no matter where it is hosted.

For a while now I’ve been suspecting the intelligence agencies of far more involvement in the VPN industry than most people would suspect. It’s not a far reach to extend that theory to encrypted email providers. But I don’t know if that guy is credible, he doesn’t appear to be.
