K-9 mail spam folder setup
I recently got an Android phone and am wondering if there is anyway to configure K-9 mail so that I can mark junk mail as spam from within K-9 mail. If I choose the "spam" option in K-9 mail it seems to just move the message to the local spam folder on my phone, and it remains in my inbox on the server.
I tried searching but search can't handle the query "K-9" correctly. |

What you can do is:
1) Setup a folder in your fastmail account explicitly your spam into: a) Create a folder using the "Options->Folders" screen b) Click on "Edit" corresponding to that folder in the same screen and choose the "Spam Learning" as "Spam" 2) Set your K-9 to client 's spam folder as that folder: In K-9, if you go to your "Incoming server" settings, you should have an option to choose a "Spam" folder. Choose the newly created spam folder for that and save settings. Once you do that, any emails you report as spam on your K-9 will be automatically filed into that folder. And the fastmail server would take care of learning emails in that folder as spam. To improve spam accuracy, its important that you have enough non-spam reported as well. So, you can setup folders with your legitimate folders (eg: Inbox) to do an automatic non-spam learning as well by marking that folders "Spam Learning" as "As non-spam". http://www.fastmail.fm/help/spam_virus_protection.html -Yassar. |

Ok, I had tried that option before but I didn't see my pre-existing "junk mail" folder as an option to choose in K-9 mail. It turns out it was related to the display class setting of the "junk-mail" folder in K-9 mail. I have one more question though: in the fastmail web interface if I move an e-mail to the spam folder as opposed to reporting it as spam does that not modify the spam filter? I'm asking because you told me to turn on "spam learning" for that folder.

The folder scan is mainly for those who access emails through email clients and don't use the webinterface much. That way, they just have to move the emails into the "Spam" folder to learn emails as spam and set their other legitimate folders to learning to "Non-Spam" so that our servers would do the spam learning based on the schedule. Hope that makes sense. -Yassar. |
