cannot make new file

Since the buy-out, which I presume has caused the problem, I cannot make a new file to store certain email in.... I want to archive a group of emails, but no matter how often I try, my new file list/archive is NOT created.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

What does Fastmail advise that I do?

Arrow How to archive messages

Welcome to the EMD Forums, urgetoo! The purchase of Fastmail by Opera did not change any of the features. They should work just as before. For example, I just tested the methods below, and they work just as they did months ago.

Are you using your Internet browser (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari) to access the Fastmail online website to read your mail, or are you using a local email client (such as Thunderbird or Outlook or Windows Mail)? If you are using the Fastmail online website and want to make a local archive on your PC containing certain messages, there are a couple of methods you can use:
  • Mailbox download selected messages:
    • Manually select the messages you want to download, then use the Action tool Download Zip feature. You will be prompted for a folder into which the zip file will be saved.
    • You can open the zip file saved on your PC and read any message in a local email client (such as the free Mozilla Thunderbird client).
  • Archive using criteria:
    • Go to Options>Folders.
    • Click the Purge/Archive/Remove duplicates ... button at the bottom of the screen.
    • Select the folder you wish to use.
    • Optionally enter a date criteria
    • Optionally enter a size criteria
    • The Calculate Size button will show how many messages will be archived, and the total size.
    • The Archive Messages button creates a zip file containing all of the selected messages. You will be prompted for a folder into which the zip file will be saved. The original messages are not deleted.
    • Warning: The Delete Messages button immediately deletes the selected messages. This is an immediate action, and the only way to recover from mistakenly deleted messages is using the Options>Restore from backup feature.
You can also use an email client (such as Mozilla Thunderbird) to make local copies of your Fastmail folders using IMAP. You can create archives and import/export messages in Thunderbird.

Another method of creating a local backup is the free IMAPsize tool, which can perform incremental IMAP backups.
