I have large files to get to a client on occassions. My question is has anyone had any happy experiences uploading files near to the limit using the browse/attach feature?
I don't want to waste time attempting it if the RB server has a different agenda to RB (as it did for me last year).

Have uploaded files up to 200MB in the files area and up to 100MB in e-mail messages, haven't experienced any problems in uploading so far.. expect it to take some time, though.. heavy files takes time, so I would recommend using FTP for uploading / downloading.

But no, no problems with the browser uploading...

The ftp server does not support SSL.
So offering pop3s/smtps/imaps and plain ssl is ridiculous.
There are some ftp servers with SSL support.

Keep in mind that the 100MB is the total message size limit for a message. You will not actually be able to attach a 100MB file to a message.

Binary (non-text) attachments have to be encoded using MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) which is a specification for formatting non-ASCII messages so that they can be sent over the Internet.

This can increase the size of the attachment by at least 25%. So you probably can't really send files much bigger than 75-80MB.

Also keep in mind the limits on incoming mail of receiver.

Rich

I have a mail message with an attachment that is 93MB, the total mail size showing 126MB.

I am aware of the MIME encoding, and didn't thought it would be possible, but it apparantly is.

Maybe it's a bug, or maybe the total mailsize limit allowed actually is higher, so that the option for sending 100MB size messages is present?

The actual limit is 130MB, to effectively allow for 100MB attachments.

If I recall correctly "message size limit" use to mean the size of the total message including encoded attachments. I guess the meaning has been changed.

But that's probably better since most people will think of "100MB message size limit" as meaning they can attach up to 100MB to a message.
