GMX have shut down unofficial IMAP server

For pro customers (not freemail customers) they had an unofficial "testing" IMAP server. It has been shut down and they do not intend to offer the service.

Just for Info. See the story on www.heise.de if you can understand German.

Wow. It seems like Fastmail is the only one offering IMAP with a guest account.

GMX never offered IMAP officially and only paying pro customers could use the unofficial testing IMAP servers.
GMX's main competition web.de (which I think is actually better) offers IMAP too and officially.

But I think you have to live in Germany to use it as they only activate your account after sending you a postcard with an activation code on it.

And there is myrealbox - but those 2 are the only ones I know that offer free IMAP.

Another free IMAP provider

There is also http://www.my-mail.ch. They provide quite a vast range of features, such as

- 20 MB storage space
- 10 MB size limit per message
- Access via web interface, POP3, IMAP, WAP
- Virus protection
- LDAP3 address directory
- Spam protection

However, it would be very useful to understand German when using this service...

Yep, Infinite Ink (ii.com) is the definitive reference at the moment. Nancy McGough keeps the list very up to date.

I'm very proud that with everything she knows about IMAP providers she chooses to use FastMail.FM.
