Second Choice after Fastmail?
My wife and I have been FM users for several years now. We've survived a couple of outages and stayed on board despite the buyout. Chances are good we'll just stay put.
Just from curiosity however, what would be your second choice for a domain-hosting email service if Fast Mail wasn't available? Yahoo? Google? Someone else? Thanks, CS |

Despite a few past frustrations, IMO Fastmail is so far ahead of other providers in terms of reliability, speed and features that choosing a second place is next to impossible. All others I've tried have had one or more negative aspects that made me never leave FM. For example:
Gmail/Google Apps - overall great service, but message threading (without the ability to split them), having to establish an alias just to send a message with the appropriate FROM address (even if I own the domain, and Google knows it), and my general opinion that Google is semi-evil. Yahoo mail - Spam filtering is awful. Eumx - Openwebmail doesn't like folders of a few hundred messages and becomes exceedingly slow. Feels more like a hobby service than a professional email provider. Tuffmail - In my past experience, the owner/admin was a jerk (he didn't like that I had used to the money back guarantee). Their plans also have MUCH less storage than FM. I generally don't like any provider that uses a third party interface. For me (and I know I'm being harsh) it screams amateurism. I prefer that the provider I pay to use has direct control over the direction of their own service (interface). |

Depends on your needs. 01.com offers hosted Zimbra, an exchange like alternative.
If I weren't hooked on fastmail, I'd probably be there, address books, calendar, etc. all sync between clients. Outlook compatible... |

I have to confess that I have abandoned Fastmail for 01.com this year and no regrets yet! Simply the amazingly fast sync of address book, calendar and so on sold it to me.
Also, Zimbra Desktop 2.0 has been released, which is a free desktop client and, after getting used to a different way of doing things, I think it's great! Nothing will ever beat Fastmail for speed for me... but the flexibility at 01 is amazing! Last edited by shenton : 31 Oct 2010 at 11:29 PM. |

I have to agree that it's really hard to think of a runner-up. In fact, I'd have to go with a completely different alternative - get your own domain and sign up with an established reliable host such as Rackspace or similar. That would probably be the safest method and one in which your mail is never at anyone else's mercy

It's listed under "General" settings and applies to all 'conversations.' I don't see a way to turn off conversation viewing for just the conversation/thread one is looking at.
