yeah I know, $50 a month is a little ridiculous... $50/year that's ok..
Prices have to be reasonable, otherwise they risk losing customers...

The current rates are of course as follows..
$30/year Basic
$50/year Standard
$90/year Professional

I am still using one of the old plans, Lite for $10/year which is good enough for me for now, so I'm payed up for the next 5 years at a time.. maybe I will upgrade after that...

This endless discussion intrigued me. I was a FM customer more than a decade ago, and one of the reasons I eventually left was the clunky interface and also the cost, with free Gmail being a big draw. So, my domain email provider recently pooped out on me so I thought why not give POBox a try? I know they are not exactly the same as FM, but I imagine most things are the same. I can only say that so far, only a day in, POB is one of the best email providers I have dealt with. The entire onboarding process has been a breeze and the Help documents are actually helpful--rather unusual with even very large vendors. The help articles are not only useful, but clearly written too. I find the Webmail interface very good so far--far, far better than the standard Cpanel ones available from many providers. So far the email app seems quite good too. Importing emails, contacts, and calendars went very smoothly and fast. Frankly, the old interface may have been the bees knees, but the new one seems much better than many out there. Looking forward to giving this service more of a spin.

PoBox uses fastmail's new interface.

Just to be clear from those who haven't been using Fastmail continuously: The interface currently used by Pobox was introduced by Fastmail in 2012. It has been the standard Fastmail web PC interface for five years, so it's not a new interface. Here is the history over the past 16 years:Bill

Goodbye old friend

I've tried the ajax interface full time for a couple of months now, and I'm missing the old compose window.

I guess I'm one of the 3% of Fastmail users that prefer the classic interface. I and others here are 'power users who are more concerned with functionality than aesthetics.' I like beautiful things and beautiful web apps, but when they restrict me, I have to think again about using them.

My issue, as has already been discussed on this thread, is the ajax compose editor. I took a bunch of screen-shots to illustrate my point, but after reading this entire thread, I can see this would not change anyone's mind. https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...FhxemRRdVJjYmM.

So! What do do. Some ideas:
  • Find another email provider that has licensed Fastmail's classic interface (or similar).
  • Learn CSS to expert level, install Stylish, and hack away at it.
  • Install Greasemonkey and likewise hack away.
  • Sit and steam, (and after some time)forget about my issues, and try to adjust.
  • Build my own webmail interface hosted on my own server, just to prove I can. :-)
  • Find an IMAP client that doesn't so much make me want to puke.

That's about all I can think of.

all the best,

-MattJhsn

PS: Thislooks pretty close to the current Fastmail compose. Another link.

I am switching back and forth between the two. I can mostly live with the new one but the refusal to implement one very trivial change I've requested repeatedly is disillusioning and predisposes me to leave. That kind of feeling has preceded other changes I've made over the years -- from GoDaddy to Namecheap for example.

The trivial change: make it possible to sort contacts by nickname, which the classic interface does (I have a number in there and it makes my life a LOT easier).

At some point I might even consider Microsoft again but I'm truly loathe to do so. I like to support small companies that are (or were!) more responsive and respectful of their loyal and long established customers.

The other classic feature I use quite a bit is the moving of tagged messages into folders, but it's not as important, just something that works for me.

the FastMail Classic UI feature I need/use are:
1) folder mail count #s (new/Total)
always there and aligned to the right margin... <-- critical!!

2) Empty link on the trash folder...

and that's the two I use that I can think of at this moment....

Did you volunteer to defending a poor decision with empty words?
Why do you bother, what do you gain from? Stay out of this discussion if the subject doen't interest and doesn't impact yourself.

There is more.

- Insert quick notes from compose windows (that was the purpse of certain notes being so tagged).

I passed this to developers via technical support and the answer was that's a little used features. Guess what, it's one feature that I use a lot and is important to me. I was told my input was being passed to developers.

Companies should not have to infinitely support every idea. If something is loved by you, but unused by 99% of the rest of the userbase, they should have the right to discontinue ...

That being said, sorry you lost a feature you really like.
