Sad. Something like (but not exactly) has happened OCCASIONALLY on a discussion forum (not this one), but maybe only once for any email. The well-known email services have generally been very very good in my experience. ("Well-known" being mostly GMail, Yahoo, AOL, and a couple of others.)
