FM not showing total emails in folders

Since last night, I noticed that suddenly FM is not showing total emails in my folders, only new ones that come in. It DOES, however show total in my Inbox. What happened? It is very annoying not to see total messages I saved in the folders I created. I am a client since early years of FM and I can not find a solution anywhere in settings, etc. Thank you for any help!.

I’m not sure I understand. The Fastmail web interface (and iOS/Android clients) show the number of unread messages in each folder. See:
Fastmail Mail help
Quote:
The folder list shows your folders and a count of the unread messages in each folder.
If you found some way to show the total message count with CSS tweaks, that of course can break at any time, since Fastmail doesn’t formally support such tweaks.

Here is a work-around tip: If you select a folder and then click the select all box at the top of the message list, you will get a count of all messages in that folder.

When I hover over a folder name for about 1 second I get the total count displayed. Also when I view the folder in the lower right hand corner of the list of messages I see the total number of messages and the range of the messages currently displayed (the range is updated in real time when I scroll).

Yes - I forgot about the indicator at the bottom of the message list that shows the range of the displayed messages and the total message count in that folder. This is available both on the Fastmail web interface and the app for iPhone, iPad, and (I’m guessing) for Android. The numbers shown depend on the View setting at the top - if you want to see the count of all messages in that folder, be sure to view All mail.

This also works when displaying a search. If you search for the following, you will see a list of all messages sent from Ray which are unread, and the total of these is shown at the bottom (such as 1-5 of 5). Note that UNREAD must be in all-caps to be interpreted as a keyword rather than a search word. You could also use is:unseen or is:unread but that is longer to enter than UNREAD.
Code:
From:ray UNREAD
The Fastmail search feature has really improved over the years. It is pre-indexed, so searches are very fast, even if you have many messages. When you open the seach dialog, you will see below choices to Narrow your search and a list of Recent searches. If you already have a folder/label open, the tool gives you a quick way to search only in that folder/label. I can quickly see that I have sent and/or received (with:) 673 messages with a particular cousin, and see them sorted my date, sender, subject, or size.

But why did they take away the message count in the first place.

Because of the current fashion for "clean" interfaces. Useful information isn't dirt! Hiding it from us until we've discovered what new hoops they've invented for us to jump through before we're allowed to see it, is irksome and impractical. But then that's the nature of fashion... as any woman who ever had to dash to catch a bus while wearing a tight skirt and high heels will testify.

Most people in most use cases don't need to know the total number of messages (or conversations) in a folder. The number of unread messages and knowing whether this number is zero or positive is important to most users most of the time.

The new Folder is not a full function folder as you cant adjust any of the folders.....its just glorified folder search function.
Plus I hate it stuck above my inbox.

You have said this many times, but nobody understands what you mean! Please either supply a screenshot so we can suggest a solution... or else stop harping on about it!

Well on left you have all your folder locations, the Folder marked Folder is on top of my inbox folder....I would like to be able to move the folder called folder to near my junk mail folder or having an option not show it at all like all the other folders have.

I realise a lot of people love it and accept its position, I am old school and hate being forced to accept something I don't require.

This isn't what I see with webmail on my computer or on my phone. I see no folder marked 'Folder'. Like I said, if you want help, please let us see a screenshot (suitably edited for privacy) so we can diagnose the issue. Otherwise, if you don't want help, why keep raising it?

EDIT:
Hold on... it's not actually marking a folder, but I think you may be referring to the word "Folders" which appears above the list of folders, with the magnifying glass and plus sign icons beside it. If so, surely moving or hiding that would make no practical difference, because there still needs to be a line of space there to put the 🔍 and the ➕ in. It might as well have the word "Folders" in it as just be empty.
It has occurred to me, however, that those icons might be better relocated next to the blue "Compose" button, so that they don't disappear off the top when you scroll down the list of folders. Maybe that would also satisfy you? (I'm referring to the computer version of webmail)

ANOTHER EDIT:
Bill is on top of all this, as ever (see below). Thanks, Bill !
What I see is much like the left-hand part of the image he refers us to.
Is that what you see, too, Terry?

This post I made earlier this year may help:
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/show...8&postcount=55

My earlier post shows a new beta feature which was removed:
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/show...2&postcount=11

As I noted in my July post, the earlier beta ability to move the folder search tool was removed from beta, and my account seems to be frozen in that form I created back in April.

See these images of my two account folder setups:

Try changing to Labels. Does that move the search and add buttons down below Trash? Now change back to Folders. Does it go back to the top?

By the way, the "Folders" folder is not a folder. It is a H2 (header) text label.
