Problem with imaps again?
Connecting to secure.runbox.com:993 often fails
(while ping and telnet to secure.runbox.com:143 is OK) |

It seems to be fine for me. And actually quite speedy at the moment. I downloaded 2979 small (2KB each) messages in less than 2 minutes.

I'm still unable to send any e-mails from my computer-based e-mail program. I can send from the web-based site, though. I never had any problems with the receiving of e-mails, just sending them. Everytime I try to send an e-mail I get the error message: Failed to connect to the outgoing server: 'smtp.runbox.com'. Please try again later.
Details: Connection to server has failed. Ange |

Ange,
Welcome to the Runbox Forum. If you're certain you have entered the correct username and password and you still can't connect, it's possible that your ISP is blocking connections on port 25 (the default port for outgoing email). To circumvent this you can change the port number in your email client to either 26 or 587. - Geir |

No IMAP connection - last two days
I've been able to send via SMTP fine, but have been unable to connect via IMAP for about the last two days. The message I'm getting is:
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "imap.runbox.com" on port 0 timed out. I'm using IMAP.RUNBOX.COM 1143. What significance does "port 0" have? (this is with Apple Mail) |

Is the beta imap server running?
% telnet imap.runbox.com 1143 Trying 193.71.199.94... telnet: connect to address 193.71.199.94: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host % telnet imap.runbox.com 1143 Trying 193.71.199.94... Connected to aibo.runbox.com. Escape character is '^]'. <SARCASM> It's probably delayed until 2007. </SARCASM> Meanwhile use secure.runbox.com:993 or imap.runbox.com:143. Not a good idea
Changed from 1147 to 147 and it's working and fast now.
HOWEVER, I had to stop the connection because it was duplicating (re-dowloading as new/unopened) ALL my mail. Bad news. What's up? |

I've never seen IMAP get duplicate messages. POP3 yes .. but IMAP no. With IMAP messages have a Unique Identifier (UID) so an IMAP client is suppose be to able to match up messages that it has locally with messages on the server. I just switch my port from 1143 to 143 and it worked without downloading duplicate messages. I tested this with Thunderbird 1.0.6 under Windows XP Home. Regards, Rich |

Sorry, yes 1143 & 143 .
Well, I'm not ending up with duplicates, actually, but it *appears* to be re-downloading and leaving previously read messages marked as unread. Quite confusing. I say appears, because I have a dialup connection and it's quite slow, making it difficult to tell what it's actually doing, even with the Activity Viewer on Mail. The last time something like this happened (still unsure what the cause was), my account got locked out due to exceeding the bandwidth. I'm concerned it might happen again... If someone in-the-know please post back here when the situation is resolved, I'd be most grateful. Thanks. |

It may be an Apple thing because I have changed back and forth and every time I change I get all of my mail as being unread and no correlation with the other IMAP server. I have witnessed this with both Entourage and Mail.app all on OS X 10.3.9 Respectfully, AL |
