In this case, the trade-off is adding a click for searching in the current folder and at the same time adding the option to select any other folder to search in. For me searching in a folder almost always involved many clicks since the common situation is that I have a new message in the inbox and I need to find related information from previous emails. So I search in all mail, and if I have too many search results I want to narrow down the search, which almost always means searching one or a few folders that are not the inbox. Usually this meant that I copied the search term to the system clipboard, switched to the folder where I expect the old message to be in, repaste the search term in the search box and switch to searching locally. I probably could have also archive this by switching to the advanced search box but I tend to forget about it. Now it's just two clicks to get a folder list and one more (and lots of scrolling or typing a bit) to switch to any folder with the same search term.
As I recall from two much more major UI updates in the past it was first outrage about everything that was gone, then slowly finding out how most things can still be done but differently, and eventually giving up some old habits after finding more efficient ways to achieve the same goals (for most things, not all).

If there is a simple Stylish rule set that can correct this, some here would be very interested.
I just hovered over the Sender's names in my Inbox and got a tool-tip that showed the full email address.

Yes, Fastmail fixed the problem. Thank you for taking a look anyway.

Try this...

Code:
/* Widens the "sieve code" text input windows */
.v-EditSieve-rules {
min-width:1350px !important;
}

Try this...

Code:
/* Affects the blue "Compose" button in the upper-left corner */
.s-new-message {
background-color:transparent !important;
color:black !important;
}

Someone had this for previous UI. Anyway you can adjust it for new one
div#conversation {
max-width: 1100px;
margin: 0 auto;
}
div.v-Thread {
padding: 0;
max-width: 1100px;
}
